well, 12 years is too long, Epic games in that time have gone from unreal tournement to creating the likes of gears of war and sequels for each. Shame we're not seeing a new Duke game but the developers quite obviously had their eyes off the ball for a while.
I'm surprised it took this long to cancel the game. I'm even more surprised that the article has a quote from some guy saying the game is still being made!
This is like the old Cubs wait. 200 year old fan gumming Cracker Jacks and screaming, "Please God, lemme see the Cubs win the World Series before i die!!!!" god says, "i am still waiting for Duke Nukem Forever, old man...." any of you guys recall the rumor mill after Return of the Jedi about there being 9 movies planned in all and we prayed it was true (until we saw Phantom Menace)? this is what the DNF fiasco has been like to me.
This could be a great thing. Now maybe a company with the finances and drive will pick up the liscence and actually produce the next Duck Nukem game.
Damn, this better get finished elsewhere - Kotaku - Duke Nukem Forever Gameplay Footage - Clips For those at work, vid contains boobs.
I still hold out hope that this is all some big publicity stunt leading up to them having the game at E3 in playable form, preferably with a solid release date behind it.
Man, I so wanted this game, if only for nostalgia. Sure, I was a kid during that time, but I prefared this game over Doom 1&2!
Learn to Let Go: How Success Killed Duke Nukem | Magazine I wonder if they could have finished, if all fans of the game, worldwide would put some money together and give them the needed money to finish... But I guess now it's too late...
What? You give them money when the game is finished, not before. If they weren't run by an egotistical prick with zero business sense this game would have been released and already have three sequels. While I kind of lament its passing, the blame lies squarely at the feet of a single man and as such I have very little sympathy for anyone involved other than the now jobless people who bought into the madmans vision.
I don't understand what everyone's complaining about. The game was reviewed last year. It can only be a matter of time before it's release. They're probably just tweaking the ear controls.
Loved Duke 3D and Manhattan Project, and was really looking forward to Duke Forever....ten years ago. The character just isn't culturally relavent anymore and I really don't see a Duke game being successful at this point.
Wow, Broussard sounds just like my former boss. That actually makes sad reading, more so for me I guess because I lived through something similar. *sniff* Edit And I didn't know 3D Realms was actually Apogee, I played practically all their games on Shareware, Duke Nukem 3D was the only full game I ever bought though, apart from Wolfenstien 3D. (Doom was self published by Id wasn't it?) Ah. Those were the days.
