Anyone else EXTREMELY dislike Drifts voice? I mean I get that it was supposed to sound Chinese but most of the things he said were really hard to understand.
Well, maybe you just don't understand Japanese accents? It was hard at some parts, but nothing too bad, I enjoyed it.
It was supposed to sound like a faked Japanese accent. And I don't mean they were going for a legit accent but it came out sounding fake. It was intentionally made to sound like he was forcing the accent, and trying to act like a samurai.
I was actually surprised the movie STILL fucked this up. No Autobots had any backstory, they just showed up at the same goddamn time. Even fucking Bumblebee.
His accent was Japanese and was provided by an actual Japanese person (Ken Watanabe). I had little difficulty understanding him and found him to be funny. My favorite line of his is 'I was expecting a giant car,' which he says when he sees Grimlock transform.
If you saw Godzilla earlier this year, you've heard this voice before. He definitely wasn't playing up the japanese. This is just Ken's english speaking voice. He had it in Last Samurai too.
Ya, he could very whispery by the time he had his blade to Bee's neck. After that he was pretty damn understandable. This, people keep on saying it was racist and he was playing it on too much, it's his real voice people.
In addition to his voice, I love his face; it looks so interesting. I also love his eyes; they're definitely the coolest eyes among all Transformers ever shown in the films.
I only had a problem understanding him when he talked fast and said a lot. BUT TO BE FAIR, I always have that problem with movies. I need to see movies with subtitles. Need.
Ken Watanabe did an excellent job. Some lines were harder to understand, but I still loved his voicing of Drift!
Hard to understand? Nope. Ken Watanabe has a thick accent, but I can always understand him. Could you imagine the uproar if a clearly Japanese-style character had an American accent?
Me too...they were so vivid, matching his armor incredibly well. Personally I liked his voice, but I usually like Ken so wasn't a stretch for me, heh.
And Inception! Wonderful actor. I enjoyed the voice acting for Drift. He didn't have an abundance of dialogue, but he did a solid job.
