How would 3rd party figures fair though? Disney would come down a lot harder on them than Hasbro would. :\

Knowing Disney they will wait until their current contracts with Hasbro over the Star Wars and Marvel licenses are about to expire and "merge" with Hasbro then. If Hasbro happens to have merged with DreamWorks Animation by that point, Disney probably won't be too upset.

After looking around more online, it looks more like Hasbro is buying Dreamworks animation, not a merger. If that's the case then this seems much more likely and wouldn't effect the Disney deals at all.

I didn't think toys were doing that bad. Every child in my region enjoys playing with toys of all kinds, including Transformers.

But then I wouldn't know how the toy industry is nowadays.

It's clear that Transformers has evolved over the years. G1 started out as a means to sell toys, and now more effort is going into developing a story and feature (film/series/video game) than on the toys. AOE is proof of that, what with the horrible Galvatron/Stinger toys we got and the use of Transformium.

But Hasbro should hopefully find a means to ensure their toys - their main business - gets a lease on life through this strategy.

I hope this will be true, I feel if Hasbro does it this way everything should be okay.

Anyone feel this is why PlayWithThisToo got started? Because it would be a major double entendre.

    Fixed that for you.

TFTM, despite Orson Welles and Leonard Nimoy, was just a means to launch a new generation of Transformers in an extreme manner by killing most of G1 off.

For what it's worth, my local, minor-market news had a report about this deal this morning. It didn't say anything not detailed here, but if it's "out there" enough for our news to pick up, I'd read that as it may be slightly more than a rumor.

    Thank you

    Here's 2 interesting points:

    1. When DreamWorks Animation was going to be bought out by a Japanese company a little while ago, it fell through. I looked into DWA to see what they had the rights for. Mostly I was interested in He-man, which they acquired when they got Classic Media.
But I remember also seeing on a corporate webpage at the time that they owned the rights for Transformers: Animated. I can't find anything about that now.
    Can anyone corroborate?
It would mean that Hasbro would get the rights back to TF:A

    2. As I said above they have the rights for He-man and She-ra. It would be funny if Hasbro ended up with the rights for the old shows, since the main franchise is from Mattel.

Man I could go for something like that.

That being said, I wouldn't object to Disney either considering how they've been knocking it out of the part with Marvel though I'd hope they at least let IDW keep the Transformers license.

    *makes bloodcurdling screams*

That would be amazing if that ever happened. My dream is to see a Transformers movie with atleast over 60% on RT.

Hasbro owns the rights to TFA entirely already.

Neither TFA nor HTTYD are live-action.

I fear that if this is legit and goes through that certain other Hasbro brand cartoons will have their amazing animation replaced with weird CGI.

And maybe an IDW crossover named "Last Stand of the Shrekers" starring Ogrelord.

they would save a fuckload of $$$$ as far as animation for new cartoons....they could do everything in house....sounds like this has a really decent chance of being done.
