Am i the only one who has dreams about shopping for figures that not only have never been made but you still wake up thinking its on the shelf
Once in a while I dream about going shopping/hunting for Transformers. It's quite disturbing. What's even more disturbing is it's always in the same, completely fictional, shopping centre. Think I need to see a doctor. :S
I had recurring dreams for years about walking into a store and they would have all the figures that never came out in the UK or I missed. Predaking, Trypticon, Sky Lynx, Devy, Blaster, Omega... So I bought them all in real life, and the dreams stopped.
I have dreams like this all the time. This year I managed to find a boxed near-complete Omega Supreme in a friend's garage when we were prepping his house for sale. For a few weeks afterward my dreams were much more vivid.
if i've told this story once i've told it a thousand times... i was in a wal-mart. it was maybe 8... 8:30 at night in mid-winter, so it was very dark outside. i was near the frozen food section, near a cardboard stand normally used for books and whatnot, in between the clothes and frozen food. from the corner of my eye a red silhouette catches my eye - it's dotm specialist ratchet and dotm thundercracker, two toys i regretted passing on! i proudly grabbed them and strided up to the check-out, on the way checking out the toy aisle where, to my surprise, there's a dotm deluxe mirage! packaged in robot mode to highlight the extreme attention to detail, including the black paint wash used on the figure to bring out the insane molded detail. i take all three toys to the checkout counter... and then woke up. a more recent one was a night after i saw commander starscream and ultra magnus. in the dream i was at wal-mart (again, yes), where they had recently rearranged shelves. most of the TFs were gone, the toyline stopped selling so they just shoved a little onto the shelves and said fuck it. most of the toys were replaced with gardening stuff while all the pokemon cards were now by checkout, where gardening used to be. there was also highly-detailed pokemon figures, done in a hyperrealistic style and sculpted out of translucent plastic. anyways, i was torn over the loss of my precious transformers; but on the ground were a commander ultra magnus and starscream! but i could only afford one. this is where it got weird. i told ultra magnus i'd buy him if he bought starscream for me so i buy ultra magnus and he somehow hands me money for starscream. when i get home there's a dotm ark on my floor which ultra magnus says he got me for christmas.
Oh yes. I have that dream all the time. It's fun, because I find figures that I've always wanted but could never afford, like Leader Brawl and Masterpiece Megatron. But then I realize it's a dream. In fact, I have the dream so often that I usually figure it out pretty quickly. Just last night, I dreamed that my FE Bulkhead came in the mail and he was sitting on my desk, but then I realized it was a dream. I got so mad that I hid Bulkhead with my hand and he turned to dust instantly. But at least he should be coming in the mail for real tomorrow. That's awesome!
I've had a few like that over the years. They always seem like something out of a Neil Gaiman comic/novel though. One dream I had involved climbing around in timberframe rafters of a store, as I was hiding from a werewolf (dream, remember?). I dropped down into this cabin like building, and it was a toystore: filled with figures I've never seen. I don't think I've ever felt so much excitement in a dream, it's strange. Over the years, I've actually created a few of the figures I remember from that toystore dream. I've had others, one in particular involved walking down a dark street and finding an asian toy store with a flickering neon sign. The only figure I can clearly remember was a toy train going all around the store, but the front and subsquent train car sections all looked like pieces from Skylynx. TL;DR: Dreaming about toystores is awesome, and for a customizer, a source of inspiration.
That happens to me too. I end up in a store that seems like a Toys R Us kind of store as I first go in. It has a nice bright decor and a video game section in the front. But then as I wander further down the aisles looking for more toys that don't exist it ends up morphing into a dusty Home Depot and suddenly I'm looking at stacks of lumber and unfinished doors and all kinds of weird crap.
i have dreams like that often as well, though for some reason its always a large yellow transformer, most recently a ruck. No idea why.
I recently found two RiD Vehicons at Wal-Mart. Then I woke up. I still don't own a SINGLE Deluxe Vehicon of any sort.
i bumped this because i'm curios if anyone has dreams about collecting. my most recent dream was inside a toysrus,and i had only 20$ to spend. it took place after victorion is mass release. i take a look at the transformers, and i see deluxe class cybertron arcee blue and pink, brainstorm, voyager beast silverbolt, a weird spiked dinobot hybrid, and galvatron, all headmasters. i start freaking out, i try to grab them all, but i can only afford one, so i went with the dinobot. i think it was called skewer. i woke up after i played with it and finding out it also had the combiner torso gimmick. my first words after waking up were "that was sweet!!"
I had dreams... Dreams that I could walk into Walmart and they had Transformers on shelves, filled with a good selection of CWs and Arcee, Chromia and all late Generations never seen in stores. In reality i go to walmart and they don't sell Transformers anymore, sigh.
I sometimes have a dream where I go into some out of the way store and they still have lots of MISB G1 figures on the shelf leftover from the 80s.
I don't have particularly vivid dreams, but when I was a bit younger I did occasionally dream of walking into a random store with a toy section and finding it loaded floor to ceiling like so many stores were back in the 80's... ...and we all know that's never gonna happen again.
I have the version where the store has everything I could possibly want, on clearance for less than a dollar each...but I always find out that I have forgotten my wallet.
I have a lot of dreams of walking into a random store and finding rare Digimon Digivices/V-Pets. Stuff that I wanted when I was a kid
oh yes this started as a kid around age 6 or 7 when I found Arcee at TRU. now they come in a few variations: 1. i go to TRU, they have a huge selection of "lost/misplaced case" items on the shelf from years or decades ago. i throw everything i can find into the shopping cart, credit card be damned. i really blame the real world experience of finding old stock one shelves in the 80s and early 90s on this dream. 2. variation of the above, but time travel is involved, so i'm back in the 80s on a shopping spree, but now limited as to what i can take back to the future. 3. i'm at an estate sale for an old business and finding MIB Transformers; usually Shockwave. i blame this on my grandfather's general store having Topspin and Twin Twist on the shelf until 1990...when Twin Twist sold and i bought Topspin. and opened him, even though i already had one. i'm still kicking myself. 4. i haven't had it in a few years, but basically G1 figures were rereleased/updated versions released on blister cards, like G2. usually i was getting Thrust. i had this dream for years, until 2010-12 and Generations Thrust was released. then i didn't get him because i already had Henkei Thrust, but bought one in 2012 that was loitering around. no more dreams like this. -
