From what I've been told, they're barely in the film and have almost no bearing on the story. If the bits were removed from the film, the loss would affect nothing of the story. They're basically there because they "have to be". The movie is squarely a Gohan/Pan/Piccolo story.
I didn't think we got this far. I don't feel like it was too long ago that 17 and 18 were all of a sudden Lapis and Lazuli. So the person 16 was based on is named Gebo? When was that? Who's Hedo? Did ^"16" have a kid somewhere? Or is that a spoiler for the new movie?
Gebo, aka Android 16, is a new bit of info dropped for the film. Hedo is a new character that appears in the film. Can't spoil the film, but over at the Kanzenshuu forums it's a meltdown. People are talking their butts off about it and how it went subverted their expectations, in both a good and bad way.
Believe me, I found out what happens in the movie, and needless to say I’m not happy about it myself.
It's not a huge spoiler but I've tagged it regardless. Spoiler Hedo is the scientist who built the Gamma androids, and is also Gero's grandson, but not from Gebo (16) instead from Gero and Vomi's unseen second child
Yeah, I heard about what happened on Reddit, and needless to say I’m pissed because one of the main things I wanted to happen in the movie didn’t (at least not how I wanted it to happen)
Spoiler Based on the synopsis we’ve got (And its from a trusted source, a Kanzenshuu associate who definitely knows Japanese) I’m pretty positive on most of the movie. As far as a “revenge of the Red Ribbon Army” plot goes, this one seems to make more of an effort to connect things back to the group as it was in Dragon Ball, instead of how the Android arc just introduces a never before seen or heard of scientist. I think Pan’s kidnapping being engineered by her and Piccolo is pretty funny. Hell, it’s just nice to have Pan interact with anyone who isn’t the main GT crew. Bulma’s plan of basically using the Dragon Balls so they are continuously inactive is actually fairly smart, given we’ve had the Freeza force successfully make a wish, and then almost make another one. That she’s using them to wish for dumb shit is funny, though man if the Evil Dragons from GT ever happened in this continuity, Bulma should willingly sacrifice herself to their judgement. I think Cell Max is handled better than I anticipated. They didn’t bring Cell back, but instead made a new one. Makes sense. And he’s just a big monster this time, so no need to worry about the original Cell’s lack of a personality. Also, good for Norio Wakamoto getting a payday. The new forms for Piccolo and Gohan seem really dumb. I think the movie could have been just fine without them. Piccolo’s just looks dumb, and the Granolah arc has really turned me off on the idea of asking the dragon for a power-up. If Dende had been able to do it I would have been a bit more forgiving. Gohan gets to join Future Trunks in getting another ambiguous rage-based power up for basically no reason. But gotta sell them Figuarts and DB Heroes cards. And, sucker that I am, I’ll end up getting the figures at least. Overall, this looks like a fun romp with some dumb ideas, and looks to have more story and character interaction than the last film. As spectacular as most of Broly looked, it’d be hard to sit through another fight that long in a theater again. Also! So happy there’ll be subbed showings this time!
Spoiler I see what you did there. Good one, but no. Instead of a full-on Frieza-esque resurrection like I wanted since I first heard Red Ribbon was gonna be the main villains in the movie, Cell got relegated to effectively being Bio Broly 2.0 and that, to me, really is an insult to my absolute favorite character in the entire franchise IMO
i didn’t even realize one of the transformations adds less details to a character. Wonder if that’s because of the CGI nature of the movie.
