I don't want to presume that there's a guaranteed Battletrap on the way, but I don't think that's too unreasonable.

Anyway, outstanding that Dr Wu is envisioning a really broad stroke of characters in this line beyond just the mainstay Season 1 and 2 guys. I'm here for all of it. Also Fly should look great next to Titans Trypticon "Reinforcements...have arrived."

 

He mentions that this is the first product of a new series called Extreme Squad translated from Chinese. So there's a good chance.

He also mentioned in the past that he will do combiners, so maybe he will enter the current Devastator wars with his own scale, who knows?

 

Well color me surprised! It actually is Flywheels. How cool is that?

 

Usually not interested in Dr. Wu products at all, but Flywheels is one of my favorites and he gets no attention whatsoever so I'll pick this up once it releases just to support anything Flywheels.  

 

I might get my first Dr Wu bots.
Unless some other company does these at a better scale.

 

A Devastator would also not be unwelcome

Okay, so I wonder if, and this is possibly just crazy talk, that Flywheels is him beginning a V2 of his Extreme Warfare line, except this time everything's in scale. Flywheels the size of (I assume NewAge's Cosmos, King Kong) seems too small for that line of Legends. But he'd be a centimeter taller than the EW Optimus, which also seems too tall. BUT THEN a V2 Optimus would be one CM taller and according to the holy scale chart, that's exactly how tall Flywheels is...



Yeah, I know, boo, scale schmale. But maybe...just maybe....

 

Seeing any company do a Flywheels after the Siege toy (which is one of my favorite Deluxes from that line) warms my 1987-1990 G1-loving heart. Flywheels is easily my most favorite Decepticon in all of G1, so this makes me happy. (Now bring on Battletrap. Can’t have a Duocon duo without him.)

Dr Wu confirmed in the comments section that there will be BattleTrap:




He also mentioned in the Weibo Group Chat that this new Extreme Squad series will be focused on characters outside of G1 (I take it he means outside of the S 1-3 cartoon characters):




So no S1-3 combiners in this series.

However, those are still in the pipeline, per what he said in the comments section of the Flywheels Weibo post:

That's a lot of good info. I wonder if the Extreme Squad will also cover versions of characters already released in the Extreme Warfare line like G2 Megatron or Powermaster Optimus Prime/Ginrai? Flywheels and Battletrap are planned so far. I wonder what Autobots they have planned? Punch, Brainstorm, Hardhead and Nightbeat would be pretty neat at this scale.

Punch as in Punch / Counterpunch? Wasn't he already in the G1 cartoon?

I'm not familiar with the Japanese Transformers cartoons, but I'm willing to bet that he will draw on those characters first, since there are already fans of those.

 

Flywheels! This could be my entry point into Dr Wu stuff. This could be the one that gets me in.

Only appeared in that short three episode S4 . I think he appeared in Headmasters though

 

Maybe the Jumpstarters could be a good Autobot analog for the Duocons. They are from season 2 but have no cartoon presence.
More from the same era though are the Monsterbots, who appeared in the same catalogue as Flywheels and Battletrap, have interesting alt modes and a presence in the Japanese cartoon. Would also tick the box for first animal/creature Transformers in this line.

Neither would be surprising at this point, I guess

Who's to say that Bruticus and Menasor are not coming out before Superion?

 

Jumpstarters and other non-cartoon characters like Whirl and Roadbuster would be fun. Heck, release an IDW Perceptor with a new head and sniper rifle to go with them.
Monsterbots would be great; there hasn't been any at legends scale even. If the new line is more than JG1 I wouldn't mind characters like Windblade or Tarn too.

 

Interesting mold choice. Not many repaint opportunities.
