Update 19-5-12 Some outdoor photos. Finally, finally finally finally he's done. Painting took a bit longer then I would have liked, but real life got in the way of a speedy progress. Anyways, here he is, DOTM Megatron. -Stands 30 centimeters/12 inches tall. -Articulation: Ankles, knees, thighs, hips, shoulders, upper arms (lateral and horizontal), elbows, rotating joints above the elbows right hand is on a ball-joint, left hand on a rotating wrist, double neck-joint. -Light up LED eyes that are activated by a switch behind his head. -The shoulders (pads and wheels), plate on his left arm, chest pieces, crotch plate, hip plates and the kibble on his upper back can all be repositioned. -Claw hand swaps out for the murder-arm, which has deployable blades! -Accessories: Cape, shotgun, chains, murder-arm.
I would use it too, but I have no idea where to buy it, nor even how to use it. Same goes for sculpty, so I try and make do with what I have available to me. _____________________ Relocated first WIP pictures and original OP to this post. I've been working on and off on my ROTF Megatron over the past few months, but to be honest, I really liked DOTM Megatron's design more. So after I saw FrogDNA's and AndyHibb's versions, I decided to try and make one of my own. (I hoped to be the first to have both wheels on his upper arms, but Zildjian beat me to the punch with that one. ) I didn't really want to throw out my work on the ROTF version, so at first I tried to make a 2-in-1. Sadly, while I would have loved to see it all the way through, there were simply too many potential problems that would prevent it from really working. So instead I committed to making just a DOTM version. If I ever get another TF1 and ROTF Leader Megs, as well as a voyager one, I'll revisit it. I'm glad I made that decision though, because it allows me to try and get him as close as I can possibly get to the movie model (though I'm basing him more on the concept art, I didn't like how fat he was in the movie). He's about 80% done, just need to do a few more things: -Add kibble to his claw-arm -Widen his cheek guards -Bulk up his upper legs by adding the front and side panels -Work on the panels of the lower legs -Add the wheels -Add some more small tidbits to complete the look -Clean up so he doesn't look quite as messy -Find something to use as a cape (I have one now that works great, but it's black, not brown) -Make a shotgun Going to try and give him light up eyes, but I'm not sure how well it will work, that's still something I need to experiment with. So far, I've used parts of the following figures to make him, along with spare parts of other junkers I had lying around: -TF1 Leader Brawl -ROTF Leader Megatron -ROTF Leader Optimus Prime -ROTF Voyager Megatron -ROTF Voyager Mixmaster
You can check out your local hobby shop for styrene or try ordering it online. The same can apply for sculpty. Also great job on the custom so far, can't wait to see him done.
Looking nice so far.... are you going for a more screen accurate build, or a concept type build? My suggestion is to look at some of the work by Josh Nizzi that gives a REALLY good look at some of Megs parts. If you need any pointers or to bounce ideas off someone feel free to contact me.
I like it man , it's different from all the rest of the leader Megatrons I've seen . Keep up the good work Can't wait to see this one finished .
Going for a mix of both, favoring the concept art by Nizzi. I've been mostly using the latter for references. I just love how powerful Megatron looks in those, and in there he's not quite the same jumbled mess of parts as he is in the movie. And thanks for the offer, dude. If I stumble on anything, I'll shoot you a PM.
wow, i really like this guy, and... no offence to the other versions made they are all equal in innovation, but this is the best leader megatron I have seen, bravo sir!! I totally agree that the john nizzi work is the best for reference. please pm me if you are looking to sell.
