After reading all the adaptations of ROTF and DOTM (comics, novels), it gave a lot of backstory on Megatron and seemingly how many of his actions were justified in some sense. In the end, he's still trying to repair Cybertron and his race, at the expense of Earth. I thought it was cool how they made a truce in the adaptations but I didn't like how Optimus just killed him in the movie. I was thinking that maybe since Optimus is taking the fight to the Creators, that the entire transformers race would be in danger and force Optimus and Galvatron to join forces so that Galvatron isn't the main bad guy as much. Cause I really like when a cool bad guy gets redemption instead of some lame defeat because the plot calls for it.

For the final movie, I'd want Galvatron and Optimus go have the ending from DOTM. That way it is closure and they both survive.

Having a good reason for doing bad things is nice...

But did Megatron ever seem to regret his choices or even stop and wonder if maybe humans weren't pond scum?

He seemed to relish making our species suffer. Even though he looked to Cybertron and was happy about it being saved, he seemed pretty a-okay with himself killing thousands of us. He doesn't seem to recognize that what he is doing is even evil.

So no. I don't think he deserves redemption.

He has a reason for what he did. He doesn't have an excuse, nor does he seem to have any real regrets.

Part of deserving redemption, is WANTING redemption.

Can they really kill him AGAIN? At this point you'd think everyone would accept that he's basically immortal.

Wouldn't be surprised if he does bite the dust though by the end *sigh*
I think a redemption story might be great. It would be something different. And if they ever do decide to finish this out with Unicron, then that'd be a great stage right there.

I would think if they make a 5 and 6 at least one of them might include the Autobots and (whatever new) Decepticons teaming up against a greater foe (creators, Unicron), since it's something they haven't done yet and something that has happened a few times in the various series, comics etc.

If he's still in one piece by then maybe Galvatron will have some sort of redemption, as others have said you can't KEEP killing him over and over and over.

Redemption can be handled in many ways. If you're last act is so significant, good or bad, you can be judged on that.

In real life, college football, look at Joe Paterno. Spent his whole career being held up on a pedestal. Now look at him. In his last days and from now on, many people view him as a slimeball.

    On the flipside...

In fiction, look at none other than Armada Megatron. Really showed no kind of remorse throughout the course of the show, and no honor except for when it suited his purposes. He even attempted to blow up earth at one point. Yet at the end of the series, even after immediately trying to dual Optimus to the death, he achieved some sort of redemption.

It can be done, to many different degrees. You don't have to make him a redeemable character, but you can give him some form of redemption. Whether it be sacrificing himself to destroy Unicron, or the Quints, or whatever.

I think at this point, the bad guys from these movies, and probably other TF lines, hav become so popular amongst the fans that we (secretly?) hope that they'll do something right. I mean, when I saw the end of DOTM, I was really excited when Megatron saved Optimus from Sentinel, but that went away in like 5 seconds :/

No but it appear they wanted Galvatron to be in the film so we can have some incarnation of Megatron again

Have to agree with you on that. I'd be perfectly happy with the current TF film saga ending that way

I think with they way they're going by introducing an outside force, then it could be a possibility.

Doubtful he'll get one, probably because most people will see it as the "Darth Vader" cliche.

Personally I kinda wish he'd get a moment like that, or at least something to make him honorable.

The end of Transformers Prime is very very good scene, when the tyrant actually sees the damage of authoritarianism, Megatron took conscience of his position, helped Prime to defeat Unicron and finally disband the Decepticons. The decepticons and autobots fought together.

I think it's crazy the amount of flack Prime takes for killing Meg's in Dotm.. I know my stance on this is unpopular , but Meg's got what was coming to him!! He freaking killed Prime in ROTF!! I remember that scene in the woods where he comes from behind and stabs Prime!! I think that in military terms ( and this is an alien war ) he was to dangerous to be left alive.. Because as long as he lived the war would continue!! History has taught us that dictatorships are never good.. And Meg's is and always has been a ruthless military dictator.. Albeit a cool one.. None the less he is one!!

He explained a lot of his reasoning in the narrative of the comics. Megatron wasn't always bad, but in the end he wants to rebuild Cybertron. And Optimus stopped him so many times. From another view, the Autobots could definitely be seen as rebels or criminals. But in the adaptations, he was pretty much spent on war and even agreed to allow the Autobots to return to Cybertron.

And in the comic book version of Star Wars, Han Solo met a green space rabbit mercenary named Jaxxon.

Adaptations like the Transformers book can get things wrong, or just straight up make it up.
