You would think that's a given, considering they're giant, super-advanced alien robots, but I don't believe any fiction has considered the idea that they might have their own form of the internet. I'd imagine that it'd be much larger and more advanced than our own. Maybe they could actually just tap into it via mental command, since they're robots and all...

They probably do, it's just they don't use it that much anymore since their planet's fucked up and they're fighting each other and shit.

But damn, would be funny to hear some trivia about it, who's friending Lockdown on Gunfacebook or Soundwave posting gifs of that time Skywarp pushed Starscream off a cliff.

I would imagine that yes, they have that sort of communication, built into their bodies. In the IDW comics, there's mention of some bots preferring to read files manually versus info-dumping them into their brain in order to savor the details. Slamdance and Circuit are seen reporting for some sort of broadcast network(s?).

I wonder if there was any sort of monetization of the usage of the networks before the war broke out. Imagine if you had a cell phone built into your body, and you ran out of minutes.

Well they do have a telephony system in the IDW G1 universe. It's call a personal hailing frequency.

And in the videogame universe there is mention of a 'Datanet' and since a specific location in Iacon(the Decagon) seems to be central to the Autobots communications systems I'd assume there are at least two major wireless information sources, one for each faction. I don't know if there is a third for civilian cybertronians or if there even are civilians since only combatants are featured but the Datanet and the Autobots using the Decagon to access it are official parts of that canon.

I believe BM shows that it does have some thing similar.

It was one of the early eps, I think it was Cheetor who was trying to log in to get information...but everything was deleted.

In the books, the Cybertronian Internet was how Soundwave found out about all the stuff Alpha Trion was hiding. I imagine they probably did, just based on their tech - level and such. It's too useful a tool for them to just not have, and of course once the technology is out there, you wind up with 'Tronians using it for anything anyone else would use it for. Though I'm betting the system went down at some point during the war and most likely has to be rebuilt in whichever continuity it would've appeared in.

Didn't they have something called The Grid in the Exodus books? Made me think it was similar to the internet, as it was a place to hear news and whatnot.

I'd imagine that depending on the continuity, the really long war got in the way of any kind of technological revolution that didn't help withe war effort. Anytime after that war would be fair game for an internet to develop.

In the IDW comics the Autobots were using some kind of built-in data transfer system to communicate with each other so the humans monitoring them couldn't listen in. If I remember correctly the system was on all the time sharing general status information between 'bots.

Also, wasn't there something called the 'Cybernet'?

Yes, they do in the Exodus novel known as the "DataNet". The data clerks monitored this system and filed down stuff before filing it away for others to look at, like Jazz for example as it was his job as a cultural investigator.

I imagine so. I wouldn't be surprised if some Transformers can go on the internet with their minds

Yeah, but Optimus Prime doesn't use it cause he once tried and everyone was all like "OP is a ***" and he was like "WTF I thought these boards were supposed to be anonymous!?"
