Breakdown was great and I would've much rather seen more of him and Knock Out being buddies than Airachnid.

There's definitely a really cool concept in what was attempted with the whole Silas / Breakdown fusion thing.

I get the sense Breakdown could have been a really interesting character and also made Bulkhead more interesting if they hadn't killed him off before he actually got to do anything.

As for CyLAS, that concept was really friggin' cool and it's such bogus they threw it away basically after one episode.

Maybe if CyLAS was created from the corpse of a different TF who had served their purpose by the time of CyLAS' creation(meaning NOT someone killed off early just because their VA was too expensive to keep on the cast), CyLAS and Breakdown could've even co-existed. :/

Breakdown is one of many examples of Prime throwing away storytelling potential, in this case just for a shocking, sudden death scene (and I guess an expensive VA?, even though a recasting would’ve solved that).

Season 1 set-up two potential paths for Breakdown to follow: siding with the Autobots, or siding with Starscream against Megatron. Neither of them come to pass, but they both allow for intriguing thought experiments.

Breakdown becoming an Autobot could’ve made for an arc where he and Bulkhead come to terms over whatever transpired between them (still flabbergasted that this never went anywhere in the show), and for a new dynamic with Knockout where the medic feels conflicted over his partner’s defection.

Perhaps the cooler route would’ve been siding with Starscream. Imagine if he and Knockout left with him towards the end of season 1? We could’ve had a much more legitimate 3rd faction to play around with (although I fear the rapid condensing of plot threads at the end of season 2 would’ve ruined this like it did so much else).

Point being, the way they handled Breakdown was terrible. So much they could’ve done, and it was all flushed away for a “dark” and “edgy” death scene that mattered very little in the long run (especially with how Cylas-Breakdown turned out…)

I always thought the way he went out was abrupt, unfulfilling and the way his corpse kept getting mangled was a bit sadistic. His character was going somewhere and I felt some respect between him and Bulkhead. He was actually pretty interesting... and just got flushed away.

Yeah he was wasted potential because Silas fusion with breakdown could've went somewhere but alas they didn't

He was a boring thug, so I can't really feel bad for his fate. Honestly a character with so little pulse it's a bit hard to even describe him at lenght.

I mean, there's not really much to say other than the writers were idiots who couldn't write a compelling story if it bit them on the ass - they outright admitted their plans for Breakdown were nothing more than retreading the Airachnid/Arcee rivalry, which of course means DEAD PARTNERS.
    BreakdownLIES.jpg

Seriously, they straight up say that doing DEAD PARTNERS again even by that point would be 'more of the same'...but instead of simply not doing the same and going in an actual interesting direction (implying what they had done with Breakdown up to that point was a complete accident), they just cut him from the show with that as an excuse and never revisited what was clearly meant to be a big part of Bulkhead's backstory as well.

"Best left to the imagination" is a cheap, cowardly way of admitting they didn't know jack shit about what they were doing.

In my opinion Transformers Prime was epic and a fun journey to be a part of that journey is great as far as story is concerned it was really cool what they did with Unicron making him the Earth's core or earth In my opinion Transformers Prime was better than The Last Knight and Revenge Of The Fallen put together

Prime illustrated the problem with Unicron being Earth:

He literally can't do anything due to the restrictions of the narrative.

I certainly dislike how he was just thrown away because they didn't give a shit about the character or plot, but knowing they didn't care and were never going to bother following up on his and Bulkhead's history makes it hard for me to "miss" him.

They should've put Cylus either in a Vehichon or Nemesis Prime. they were already reusing the models anyway. then they could've had both Cylus and Breakdown coexisting.
