I can totally understand the hatred against re-paints as I used to despise them. But lately as I grow to like more and more molds based on the mold themselves and less about what character they represent, I find I actually like having multiple decos of the same figure. It kinda started with the Onslaught/Hardhead/Clench universe mold and has grown through finding older Beast Wars re-paints/remolds. Most recently my love of repaints went so far as to bring me to buy the Mindwipe/Skystalker to Dreadwing/Smokescreen repaint from the Tokyo Toy Show. I love those 2 molds so much, I had to have the Blue version. Hopefully in the future there won't be anymore crazy limited release versions of the pair so I can have all the decos available.

So for the TL;DR crowd, does anyone actually enjoy repainted figures?

And just cause I can't wait for them to get here or stop staring at the pics...

I've always loved repaints but now i'm cutting back on them. Unless they look really cool looking.

examples that i will try to get....

    HFTD Axor
    HFTD Megatron and Constructicons set
    HA Shadow Blade Sideswipe
    Animated Ironhide

    Depends on the mold/color scheme.

If it's an actual improvement I'm into it, but 8 out of 10 times it isn't. Not to mention if I already own the mold, that's another strike against it.

But I do own some repaints, and I love some of them.

I have limited budget, so I don't get remolds a lot. I will get them only if they are reasonably cheap + good mold.

For example, Energon Landmine, I have the repaint Landquake.

The one that I am torn on most of the time, is Galvatron vs. Megatron.

I've been cutting down on buying repaints of molds I already own because I can't afford to buy the same toy twice in different colors as much as I used to.

But I tend to find the original use of a color scheme to be quite dull, especially for on-screen movie characters. I prefer to wait to see how the mold will be recolored before purchasing it. There's only so many red/blue Optimus Prime toys and yellow Bumblebees I can stand.

The only bad repaint is one thats barely different to a previous release which many movie line toys are guilty of. However, if I don't own the original mold, then a barely different recolor is an acceptable purchase. Although I probably passed on the toy originally because I found the color scheme dull so there are limits.

I usually don't mind repaints. I usually don't get them if I already have the mold, but they're great if they are of a hard to find/no longer available mold.

For those that do enjoy them, do you tend to display them together or spread them out amongst your collection?

    I really enjoy repaints.

They fit in where ever is appropriate for them to do so. There's no rule I follow with it really.

I only get repaints if they're new characters. So I wouldn't buy Elite Guard Bumblebee from Animated because there's already a BB. However I bought Sunstorm and Skywarp, and will get Thundercracker when he's released too!

The only "same character" repaint I've bought is Gentei Ghost Starscream, and Animated Samurai Prowl (who TECHNICALLY is a retool!) and even then I sold my "normal" Animated Prowl :)

This! if its of a well done mold and the color scheme works for the design I am all for it.

G2 and the G2 inspired botcons figs this year get a special bye on the color scheme requirement.

I typically try not to buy repaints, but I'll make exceptions for molds that I really like, like Animated Lockdown and Energon Landmine.

There are times where I'll wait on a mold because I'm hoping for a better repaint down the line. Maybe it's a character that I'm not fond of or the colour scheme on the original isnt to my liking, but the mold itself looks cool. So I'll wait it out and see if there is a repaint later that appeals to me more.

I did this with ROTF Thrust, didnt really like the Breakaway (or whatever his name was) colourscheme plus it was a new character which didnt appeal to me. But repainted as Thrust, I had to get it. The character, the paint scheme and the mold all work well together.

I go on a case by case basis. I accept they're necessary to keep the line going, but I don't buy any that don't appeal to me. It needs to be a great mold - and a great colour scheme - to justify the second outing. The recent trend of giving them new heads helps.

I really like repaints, if they look good, or is a homage. I really love em if they have a new weapon or head sculpt

I do repaints depending on how the repaint is done. For instance, the ROTF Scout Knock Out mold, I don't really dig the color schemes of any of them, except for the newest one as Backfire, the red/white bike. So in this case, I prefer that one repaint over any of the others. I prefer the Dark Skyfire repaint over the Classics Jetfire, and I always prefer Skywarp repaints of Seeker molds.

So I do like repaints. Sometimes I prefer them over the standard paint decos, even.

I don't mind them. Most of my favorite characters are redecos of another like Skwwarp, Smokecreen, Red Alert, Thrust.

I have every incarnation of the Classics Seeker Mold. Love that guy.
