An old high school buddy has 10 VHS tapes of G1 episodes that he's looking to get rid of, plus a TF:TM tape makes 11. He's thinking of just dumping them off in a white elephant gift exchange.

Before he does that, I thought I'd toss a line out here. Does anyone collect these? I wouldn't expect a fat price, but better they go to a collector for a nominal price/shipping rather than to a non-collector who will probably trash them.

(I can't really post in Junkion Sales yet per the rules, as I don't personally possess the items at this time.)

So, you know of any VHS tape collectors?

EDIT: These are retail-merchandise tapes, not homemade tapes. (Honestly, if they were homemade with commercials and such, I'd keep them for myself.)

I don't collect them, but I do like helping people guess when the episodes aired (if they are personally recorded VHS tapes as opposed to ones bought from a store/mail-order with like 1-2 episodes per tape). From having recorded a bunch of old commercials (boy how times have changed) off of the VHS tapes I had, I got pretty good pinning it down to a month and sometimes even a day (commercials for sports are best for that, as are episode previews). If the commercials are recorded and uploaded, like to Youtube or something, I can try and identify when the episodes were recorded. It might help a little with solidifying TF airdates (unless it's from the 87-88 or 88-89 seasons, then it won't help much at all).

I think there are more collectors for the retail F.H.E. tapes. I don't pursue them. But I think their nice nostalgic things to keep around.

I think a recorded tape is a bit of a gamble to have someone pay shipping for unless you break down exactly what's on the tape.

I do have this "see and read" VHS tape:

Transformers: Satellite of Doom / When Continents Collide Part 1 - YouTube

Alternative voice direction is part of the fun.

    Ebay:
    Transformers on VHS.

I have the oldest Transformers The Movie 1986 VHS cassette with proof of purchase... as far as I know. I have posted a pic of this several times on here. The proof of purchase is dated 1-12-88. I have kept the them all these years for pure nostalgia value I guesse? I still have my VHS tapes from when I taped the entire series on my VCR 1984-1986. I have alot of commercials of G.I. Joe & Transformers on them.

I had a few VHS copies of the 86 movie, but I've recently sold them all.

they're not worth much, with the dvds out, but the old video-store ones with the oversized boxes covered in comic-style art might be attractive to someone.

There's probably a lot of people out there who might want them as a novelty if the price was right.

I don't collect them as such, but I do still have all my old ones. They're just a part of my TF merchandise collection now.
I'm not bothered about searching out new ones, but if I happen to come across any at car boot sales that I've not got I might grab them if they're like 10p each. But obviously they'd have to be PAL releases so the capacity for me to still be able to play them is there even if I watch the shows on disc now.

I've got pretty much all of them.. even a tape on Betamax, but it's pretty much keepsakes, some are actually my original copies from the mid eighties :)
