I grew up watching the original run/reruns. Although I was barely alive when he was in the role, Tom Baker was "The Doctor" as far as I was concerned. Even as a kid, when they got to the bit where Baker gets zapped and Tristan from All Creatures Great and Small took over I knew I could go do something else at that timeslot for a while. Most of it probably went over my head...it was all K9, The Master, Daleks and Davros that appealed to me. I did get into it with the 7th Doctor, I was at the right age to get right into his tenure and bought the magazine for a while. The started reruns from the very beginning here in Australia in the mid 90s which was very cool. I cannot get into the modern show or any of the modern Doctors, though Capaldi is a lot more like it. I love women but I think having the Doctor be a woman is shit. Just bring back Romana or write in another female Time Lord. Anyway, now that I've shared with you all my riveting origin story, this thread has led me to pick up a DVD of "Remembrance of the Daleks" (real cheap). It's the first time I've seen an episode of the old show in about 20 years, and the first time watching this story since 1987-1989 or whenever it aired here. Loved it. I'm going to start picking up select Dr Who DVDs.
