Don't end it, do a restart and go in a new direction. Big finish shows the ideas still work, they are just handicapped by certain writers and the fact that it is now hard to connect with the character. They need to ground the characters again, where the Doctor isn't known by every alien and just wanders into trouble and they don't have stupid story ideas like making him the president of earth. The easiest way is to bring back the Time Lords and have them not like what is going on and reset historical events. Then have them limit the Doctor slightly again in a way. Stop relying on special effects and go back to having a good plot.
I have nothing against Moffatt and actually am quite pleased with his work on Doctor Who. Not that I like everything Moffatt has done (series 7b and the dominance of Clara in series 8 come to mind), but overall I like Moffatt his work on the show a whole lot more than RTD his work. That said, I think it's about time for him to move on. Series 9 will be his fifth series (and thus his sixth year) and that seems like enough. Not that I doubt that he can still come up with cool ideas and stories, but I think it's best to leave before fatigue slips in. And also for a new showrunner with fresh ideas, at the risk that those will be less interesting.

Back to the past with the last episode of the classics serie yesterday, "Survival". I went in feeling that we should've ended the McCoy run with "Curse of Fenric", and in a way I still do. Curse has the bonus of giving the perfect McCoy Doctor: intentional arrival, dark, brooding, planning steps ahead, and manipulating his enemies and his companion. In comparison Survival has the classic premise of the Doctor stumbling into a situation and learning of a way to counter whatever is happening. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sure, the cat was a bit fake (like they always are) and I agree with the writer that the full face masks for the cheetah people were too much, but all in all an enjoyable story (of which I remembered very little save the ending of the Doctor and Ace walking away). It's very obvious that RTD and Moffatt took a lot from the last two years by McCoy in making the modern series. With the companion more grounded in real life and the story of the companion being important in the development of the season: Ace clearly developed over the two years she was on and the last season really was her story: from the reveal about her past in Ghost Light, her origin story in Curse of Fenric, and to promises of the future in Survivor. (But seeing this also made clear to me, again, that they were on the right track in the modern series until Clara became the companion; she really has taken over the show.) I can understand why Doctor Who fans in the 80's were upset when the show ended. (I saw the 7th Doctor about a year after in German and I didn't consider myself a fan at that time, just someone who watched whatever he could see: some reruns of the 3rd and 4th Doctor on the Super Channel, the 5th when he was on Dutch tv (a rarity) and thus the 7th Doctor.) They really were on the right track and producing some of the best stories ever since the early Tom Baker years. But I'm just grateful we got these McCoy stories. If it hadn't been for those and we would've ended with Colin Baker...then the show might have been finished for good. Besides, Seven really is one of my favourites. I really wouldn't mind a modern version.

That was RTD that said "sex storm." But otherwise, I share your sentiment. I don't want to see RTD's creepy ass sex storms. I'm still traumatized by Love and Monsters.

Doctor Who: Moffat on Time War, Capaldi on Carole Ann Ford | Den of Geek To be honest, what Moffat did was one of the few things I agree with him because frankly I think the whole Time War was the dumbest thing Modern Who has ever done to its history. It's the reason why we won't ever get good Time Lord stories on Gallifrey because they're both dead, it's the reason for all the stupid Doctor Forever Alone drama we are having, it's the reason why we got the unbearable emo 10, it's the reason why we got the Doctor's hate for guns and soldiers, it's the reason why we got the War Doctor retcon, it's the reason why Doctor Who is Ruined Forever. Sadly even with what Moffat did, it never changed anything. Gallifrey is still in limbo and the Doctor is still poor Forever Alone. --- And yes, bring back Carole Ann Ford. You failed to have the Brigadier in the show until it was too late for you and pissed on his grave by turning him to a Cyberman so don't fuck it up now!
Carole Ann Ford shows up in some of the 8th Doctor big finish stories.....after Season 4 of the 8th doctor series you can understand why she might not want to see her Grandfather.
Speaking of which, I listened to the first season of the Eight Doctor and the foreshadowing is intriguing me in regards to Charley.
That's the main range version, to one I'm referring to was his own range with Lucy Miller that were one hour episodes and had 4 seasons. Charley is prior to Lucy. Charley is an interesting character she even meets up with some of the other Doctors Spoiler And travels with one for awhile Eventually she gets her own spinoff that is getting a second season.

It mentions Kate and Osgood are going to be in the next season of Doctor Who. I guess that means the Osgood that died probably was her Zygon double. I had a feeling they wouldn't really kill her off. She's way too popular.
I think it's an almost, but not quite, situation - it looks like their license permits them to use almost everything from the new series except the Doctors themselves.
