I'm torn with this personally. I'm fine with the Shout Factory DVDs but I would like those spliced in scenes made to look better since they correct a lot of errors.

Blu-Ray is not going to help with that, since the spliced-in corrected scenes aren't available on film. What I'd really like is for TakaraTomy and Toei to make an effort to dig up all the film for those. If they did, then Blu-Ray would become a really appealing option.

I don't mind the idea of bluray copies out there. But I don't feel like I would want it myself...the DVDs are fine. I have the Rhino versions which, while not perfect, do just fine for me.

I'm happy with my DVD set. If something happened to it I would upgrade.

I don't see the point - the SD masters don't really warrant going above DVD resolution. This isn't like movie film stock which has more detail than even Blu-Ray can show (if the film is in good shape, of course.)

The exception would be if Blu-Ray can handle lower resolutions, so more episodes could fit per disc. I'd gladly pay for a Blu-Ray version that packed the entire series on 2 or 3 discs.

That would be all good and fine on shit episodes , like all the AKOM crap. But would be a terrible loss on the episodes that do actually have beautiful animation, like The Dweller in the Depths or Webworld or Call of the Primitives.

Quality hand drawn cell animation will always trump soulless CGI in my book.

I bought it myself there. Get one. I'm surprised they still have some. I think they released it in 2014 or something. I think intrada belongs to Sony. But I'm currently on the train and can't confirm. It was also front paged here and there is a thread about it.

    edit:
Vince Dicola 1986 Score To Be Released Soon Via Intrada-Sony

Yes it is - it is the record label's website. I bought it from there the day it was released even though I have the 2-disc Botcon set - it's great music!

I certainly wouldn't poo-poo it if they chose to, but unless they had something really good to add to the series, I'm fine with ShoutBox's dvds.

Not all CGI is soulless, but it's not like G1 is ever going to get the good Pixar stuff. Cell animation does have a je ne sais quoi that nothing else has, regardless.

I think an HD/3D reissue of Beast Wars/Machines or a 3D reissue of Prime are more feasible at this point. Probably no more likely to actually get made though. We don't even have TFA in HD on friggin' iTunes in North America right now*, let alone on Blu-Ray.

*but you can totally open an Australian iTunes account and download it in 1080p from there

I will purchase any Transformers animation that is released on blu-ray, but I would prefer Transformers Animated and Robots In Disguise 2015 to be released on blu-ray before a release of The Original series. I would also prefer a release of Robots In Disguise 2001 in any form over a blu-ray release of series that have been released in DVD.

I would love Animated on Blu-Ray. I'd also want RID 2001 on DVD or Blu-Ray or Beast Wars Remastered to HD.

But in my impossible fantasy where it's all perfect, it's totally top-of-the-line CGI that looks incredible & not soulless at all. :p

In my impossible fantasy, the G1 cartoon is all redone in traditional cel animation by Studio Ghibli.
