It's the age old conflict: Starscream wants to be supreme leader of the Decepticons and overthrow Megatron. The question is, do yu think Starscream would make a better leader than Megatron? If he somehow could overthrow Megs, would the Decepticons be as formidable?

Random question that came into my mind :J I'm not sure if this has a thread already but here's a new one.

Personally, I think Megatron is more competant and more threatening.Not all of his strategies are the best, but at least he gets the job done mostly.

 

It mostly depends on the Starscream in question; Armada Starscream might make a capable leader, but the others will drive the Decepticons to an early destruction. For them, it's about how quickly the Decepticons get there.

 

It depends. Armada Screamer sounds like he'd be wiser than his G1 counterpart, and make a decent leader. Movie Starscream has apparantly lead for thousands of years, and has made a good leader because his voyager toy refers to his markings as tatoos he recieved for all the wars he had won.

None of the Starscreams ever seem like they can go toe-to-toe with the Autobot Leader though, and it seems leader to leader Brawls are frequent. So chances are, they wouldn't do much better than Megatron would in the end.

 

well we've seen that starscream has taken control before, i think he would be good at it but others troops might try to take him out like he did megatron, so he would be very paranoid, and his plans would be much more strait forword & dangerous.

I don't think he has any friends that would back him up. If he did become leader, they'd all turn against him and banish him.

 

Assuming this is G1 Screamer or Animated Screamer we're talking about here, the answer would be no. He's too self-absorbed. All he'd do upon assuming leadership would be stuff like planning monuments to himself, building palaces and issuing self-benefiting edicts. First crushing defeat the Autobots hand them and the Cons would be all over Screamer like ravenous sharks on fresh meat.

Not that I'm saying Starscream wouldn't make a good leader, but compared to Megatron, I'd say Starscream loses...this round anyway.

 

G1 screamer dies just like he did in G1 trying to take over. Armada verse mabee? Movie screamer has'nt been revealed enough to know how competent he is, but i like the movie screamer alot.

Starscream has had various chances as leader in various alternate universe cartoons/comics & has failed.

 

If Starscream would be played just right I think it could work out. But would still lose in the long run of a war. As his normal way of being played out, the cons would take him out after the first battle.

 

At first, yes. But soon he would get full of himself and the Cons would overthrow him and find a new leader.

 

Depends on which continuity/universe your talking about. Some of the comic Starscreams may work but more often than not it's his ego and impatience or lack of forsight that mess him up. He can't wait long enough to accomplish much and when he does he still manages to mess it up one way or another. Again as someone else mentioned he have to come face to face with Optimus sooner or later and would probably lose, Rodimus might be a different story. Though Megatron seems to seek Optimus out just for that purpose of displaying his strength. Starscream would more likely just destroy him. He also lacks the physical strength to back up his leadership nor the charisma to inspire his troops to victory. Now that I think about it he doesn't strike enough fear into other cons to work it out either. He seems better suited to leading specialty forces like the Seekers or functioning as a tactician or scientist like he has been. Given enough characterization he could learn to be, if he possesed a ability to learn from his mistakes.

 

Better Leader than Megatron? No.

Better Leader than Galvatron? Definitely.

G1 Starscream - No. As said, his ego is too big for his own good, and he's already unpopular socially among the Decepticons. If he did get control, it'd be wrested away soon, or the team would fall apart, leaving them leaderless and easy to beat.
BW Terrorsaur (he was basically the first season's Starscream) - No. Just watch Double Jeopardy, Power Surge, and plenty of other times. Basically the same, and easily defeated.
BW Tarantulas (basically Starscream after Terrorsaur died) - Probably. Tarantulas is mad and crazy, but he's definetly more than capable. He was able to friggin take down Tigerhawk for God's sake, and THEN rip THE VOK OUT OF HIM. He's an evil genius, and he'd make a good leader, I suppose. Just don't be suprised if he's trying to eat your arm.
Armada Starscream - Yes. He's a lot more down-to-Cybertron than Megatron, and saw the error of his ways, and died a hero. He definetly could've led the Decepticons for quite some time.
Movie Starscream - Yes. We saw in The Reign of Starscream WHY he wants to be in charge. Megatron has been blindly seeking the AllSpark for The Fallen and himself for years, in a war that has devastated Cybertron. Starscream doesn't want to be leader just because of the authority (though it's a nice bonus) - he wants to save his species. He's been about the most capable Starscream I've seen, as he's just trying to do what's best for the planet and his race, similar to Beast Machines Obsidian and Strika.
Animated Starscream - Maybe, but probably no. This Starscream is a bit trickier to decide. On one side, he's not a coward most of the time like past incarnations. He's thrown himself into battle with the Autobots with ease (though in the pilot this probably wasn't saying much), and was able to defeat Ultra Magnus with one shot point-blank. In A Bridge Too Close, Part II, he was seen dueling Megatron with EQUAL STRENGTH WITHOUT backup. He could've very well killed Megatron with his final booby-trap in Endgame Part II as well. But his Achilles heel is his ego, as usual. If he had Slipstream as his second in command, THEN we might have something...

 

With most Starscreams and most Megatrons no.

Starscream might be able to win a battle here or there, but he doesn't grasp that each Decepticon has to be manipulated in a different way. Some you can keep in line with brute force some you can exploit their ego, some you can motivate with the cause. Megatron seems to grasp this but Starscream seems to think declaring yourself leader is all you have to do.

Just look at the Beast Wars episode with the ghost of Starscream to see how quickly things fall apart even after victories.

 

Starscream is really motivated, that's for sure. But his plans have one fatal flaw. He attempts to have a coup and overthrow Megatron, but the seekers (his "army") are on Megatron's side. So he's kinda screwed over. But you have to say, Animated Starscream was a genius. He would've probably been able to take over the Autobots easily.

 

No, Starscream would never make a better leader than Megs. He just doesn't have the inner 'steel,' the overpowering will nor the charisma to hold an army of brutal, ruthless and often demented killers together, and shape them into an effective fighting force. Starscream also isn't strong enough; the leader of the Decepticons must be able to enforce his will through his fists, and especially the fear of the use of his fists, or Fusion cannon.

 

what if starscreams ghost had corrupted galvatron?
i know galvatrons hatred and insanity would overthrow starscreams

maybe it could work if he had controlled unicron's mind,making a deal with the planet eater to become his "silver surfer" if you will.instead of a solid form ghost-herald
starscream supplies unicron with endless worlds to consume and unicron grants starscream cosmic power beyond reality.
then starscream(being a ghost therfore cannot take damage)
can possess unicron and be the ultimate enemy of the universe!!!
