So, we've all seen the latest render of Perfect Effect's Leonidas, the "Lio Convoy " homage. When is was anounced year ago, I, along with many others, were stoked. The first teaser images were spot on to what I wanted. But with each sketch, teaser and render that has come out, I have been more and more disappointed.

Until this weekend.

The Beast Wars Ascending characteristics are gone. The Zoids homage is gone. This pleases some people, and I'm quite happy for them. I genuinely like to see people get what they want. But here's my question:

Is this what you want?

If it is, great. We're right on track. If it isn't, someone needs to know. And if enough people don't support the direction this project has taken, then PE needs to know NOW, so they can change things while they still have it on the drawing board.

So, Do you still support the current version of Leonidas?

 

With the current look? No.
The only way I will buy this is if they do a major overhaul and go back to the original Don/Zoid look from the original teaser.

This? I don't like anything about it. It looks like a stand up and have the hands stick out transformation, I don't like the design of the lion's head and more.

So simply, flat out, no.

 

No better way to kill my interest in a figure than to change what got me interested in the first place.

 

From what I can see, the robot mode looks badass and that head design is easily one of my favorite prime style heads. Im definitely one of those people who are glad that the zoids influence is gone.

Lion mode though needs some work (Im hoping that changing the viewing angle will help a lot, though a good silhouette is important imo). The lion head is my biggest complaint right now but the body proportions arent great either. Transformation seems insanely simple as well, though that's not necessarily a bad thing if the final product looks good.

Im still really interested just because of the robot mode. Being from the same guys that did Warden makes me want to give it a chance as well. So as of now Im still interested, but definitely wary. I want to see it in the real and not just as a render.

 

I do. With the way he is now, it makes it easier for me to NOT buy it. Go go PE.

 

I really want to. I mean look at my name! This looked so promising, but not excited about this current look.

 

Yeah this has become an easy pass

It honestly looks worse than the BW2 toy

 

I have the Robot Masters version of Lio Convoy

I'd buy a Liger Zero version for the comedic value. This isn't a Liger Zero

 

PE earned a lot of goodwill with Warden so I'm willing to wait too see what the final product looks like before writing it off.

 

Love the hell out of their robot mode design, so hell yes.

I was never super excited for him but yeah that lion mode is pretty freaking awful. Possibly the worst beast mode I've seen since some of the original bad beast wars figures. Not sure why its so... awkward looking. It's not that its just thin but it literally just looks like hes on all fours with a lion head plugged on as his torso seems to not transform at all.

 

Have we seen anything beyond mock-ups yet?

 

I collect all molds of LC so yes.... also if this time I dont like the alt mode...

 

I'll reserve any final judgement till we see a prototype, but I agree with those that liked the original design better than the current render.

The current render seems too thin and lanky; the original design was solid, beefy, powerful looking.

 

I did really like the original design, but I have a serious soft spot for robot lions so I'm reserving judgement until I see the final product.

 

What's the difference between supporting this and waiting for the prototype? It's not like there are any pre-orders currently available.

 

That current design of theirs is a aesthetic train wreak. They need to go completely back to the drawing board on this one and give it some serious thought.

I find myself Absolutely hating this beast mode. No complexity what so ever. The lion head looks very uninspired and pails in comparison to his former Cybertronian design ( which reminded me of Leo Prime back in the IDW Beast Wars Omnibus comic. A VERY cool book I might add).

Hey, I love Leo Prime. He rocks as a character and I would love to see a modern representation of him done by a third party...I just want it to be one that does him justice rather then a disservice.

 

pretty much this...not ready to pre-order just yet, but it isn't on my "oh hell no" list...

now...if he'd only open up on REAL story of the other 299 autobots who died under his command...
