I liked them as a kid but I don't care for them now. Unless they are really unobtrusive, I tend to remove them.

    Same here. They're pointless.

I leave them in place. To me they are part of the figure as it was meant to be.

No way. I like them a lot, actually. They're sort of an iconic part of G1 Transformers to me; I actually don't buy reissues that lack them.

Only my Bumblebee has a rub symbol. I probably will replace it sometime.

I love the rub symbols. To me it's not that they serve a purpose in revealing factions (to me), it never was - but when I was a kid I would pretend that they were for security checks or rub them just to see them go through all the different colors before turning black.

Remove them? Hell no, that'd be blasphemy - if anything I wish I could stick them on all my bots - not as a substitute for tampos, but as additions to them.

I didn't mind them as long as they weren't prominent, but I HATED when they started taking the place of the main faction sigils. I've used reprolabel sigils to cover or replace the most egregious of these instances. First chance I got, G1 Soundwave's annoyingly prominent chest rub sign was replace with an actual 'Con symbol.

never, i love them, removing from a g1 figure makes them incomplete imo

except those crap rts ones, they were in the way of the reprolabels, and missing the border looked bad

I dislike rub symbols a lot. They hold no appeal to me what so ever. So those things are gone almost instantly.

I keep em on my few G1 reissues, but I replaced all the rubsigns with faction stickers on my RTS figures.

I wouldn't on a G1 toy but on classics I would (and do).
I am a fiction-first kind of guy and since the rubsymbols have hardly been used in any fiction I don't care for them. It feels kind of bad peeling them of Botcon toys and such but they really look bad (to me). Most classics and RTS have been de-rubbified. A few of my botcon toys (Dreadwind comes to mind) I have removed them from. Botcon Bugbite and the Funpub Battlechargers are still sporting theirs... for now, but I'll remove them some day and might put a faction symbol there instead.

How could you dislike them enough to remove them? The concept is alien to me

Nope. It's fairly obvious if a character is an Autbot or Decepticion most of the time (only exception I can think of it like, Deep Dive from RTS and the G1 mini-spies), and rubsigns are part of the classic Transformers asthetic to me.

Reprolabels makes Rubsigns that you can put on your figures. I used one on my custom Classics Erector and it looks great on the crane cabin roof.

When it comes to the RTS figures, I removed them. I wouldn't remove them from the BW and G1 figures thought. But given that, I really find them pointless on the G1 figures. Its like they thought the kiddes has to been stupid back then. "Gee, they wouldn't notice the big Autobot or Decepticon logos. So let's make this this rub sign and place it in some strange area on the figure."

I don't bother to remove them, but I'm not a fan of them. I remember thinking they were cool when I was a kid... at first. When they started showing up on all Transformers, I soon wished they'd go back to regular faction symbols.

For G1, they were an added incentive/gimmick. "These are the REAL Transformers" Hasbro claimed, hinting that there was some sort of KO market out there (or, Go-Bots are cheap imitators even though they preceded TF briefly). There's even a commercial out there where Prime & Megatron team up to tell you about how they're the real Transformers, and you should only get TFs with the rubsign (but I can't find the ad on youtube at the moment).

    Oh, and the Minispies.

I think you should keep them; for collectors (or maybe just those hardcore folk searching on eBay), it's important to know that the first wave (without the rubsign) is in fact from THE first 1984 wave, and not the 2nd round of 1984 figures re-released with the 1985 stuff. For figures originally released with the rubsign, that makes them part of the toy.

    But it's up to you!

When I was a kid, I tried to remove Sideswipe's rubsign. It was really stuck on there, I left it on and the corner I started removing it on really sticks up. D'oh!
