There are several Takara toys I would have liked to have owned instead of the Hasbro release, but couldn't justify the extra expense. Price is the only reason I regret buying Takara over Hasbro. But I have bought some Takara toys though that were worth the extra expense. I'd say those that I regret would be Binaltech since they were so expensive, at the time they were the Masterpieces of their day but I could have bought two Alternators for one Binaltech. I also bought several Galaxy Force toys when the show was new when in hindsight, I should have waited for the cheaper Cybertron releases. The hype of a new toyline can be overwhelming sometimes and hard to resist.

Henkei Astrotrain and Henkei classics Megatron.

At the time, It didnt strike my mind to import a toy and I liked Astrotrains deco for the most part.

    Megatron though..

I regretted getting impatient and importing Wing Saber back during the Energon days. But at the time it wasn't clear if it would come out...and then once it did it was still relatively hard to find for a price not on par with the import.

I think Hasbro's Blurr was the only time. Still a damn good mold, but I like Takara's way more. Shame their deluxes are like 30 a piece.

I vaguely regret not buying Movie Masterpiece Starscream.

At the time, i thought it was too much to pay for a repaint of a Leader class toy, and thought marketing it with the Masterpice tag was a cynical attempt on Takara's part.

Now, i would prob pay the original price for it.....but am too cheap to pay what it seems to go for on the secondary market.

I regretted Planet X Genesis. I should've gotten YOTS Omega with the Armeggdon add on. YOTS had more playability without worrying about the ratchets giving out due to the weight from the Blaster and claw.

I had my Mom mail me Hasbro's Drift when it came out cause I wanted it so bad.

A year or so later, the Takara version came out with a much better paint job, but I passed cause I already had the toy.

But I should have bought it. Regret.

That Black Classics Jetfire as it was an impulse buy when I started getting transformers again. Wish I could sell it off and get a thrilling 30s jetfire for cheap.

However, I don't regret getting takara arcee as I got her at discount and the hasbro version has been scalped to the point where the takara version at online retail is cheaper.

I regretted buying Takara Superlink Skyfire Sonic over Hasbros Energon Overcast, because Takara inexplicably stripped out all the electronics from their version.

And this was on a roll of me buying Takara because Takara Micron Legend/Binaltechs were far and away better than Armada/Alternator toys.

    I was pissed.

Reveal the Shield Jazz and Tracks as Takara's looked so much nicer, but price was also an issue for a better paint job.

MP Shockwave. He's fun to transform and all, but everytime I see that pale lilac SOB I keep thinking he needs to go to the gym to bulk up and get a tan so he can be more like Quakewave.

    Edit:

Adding MP Tracks/Road Rage - the KOs have rubber tires and the official version doesn't? What happened Takara?

I don't regret buying the Hasbro versions of Superion and Menasor, but I do wish I had waited to see what Takara was doing first. By saying that, I'm saying I would not have bought Alpha Bravo or Off Road and waited for the full G1 based teams.

But in all honesty, the teams are really not that different once you get the G1 guys aside from Gray vs Black Motormaster and Takara Dragstrip is monochrome. Now I know Hasbro's Wildrider has way too much Red IMO and Slingshot has black parts when he doesn't in the TT set. But I fixed Wildrider and Slingshot to be more to my liking by simple pin popping and parts swapping with an extra set of Dead End and Fireflight.

Now I would have regretted buying the Hasbro Defensor and Bruticus.

The one I do regret, even though now I have MP Smokescreen was buying the Hasbro Universe Deluxe Smokescreen over the Henkei, or whichever Takara line it was. The Hasbro Smoke was a mess of a deco IMO, the Takara was damn nice, and G1 based accurate.

But now I'm trying to build a Season 1 and most of 2 MP collection.

That's not even what was asked. I doubt anyone in this thread wants to hear about subjective 3P BS. It's a thread asking about Takara vs Hasbro and has anyone regretted buying a Hasbro over Takara or vice versa...not anything about 3P.

but the title is worded in a way that asks whether you preferred the hasbro or takara compared to the other companies', plural. the first post contradicted it, but he was going by the title.

plus i must've missed the part where he was BS'ing?

I'm generally careful about picking up Transformers, making sure that, first, it is a toy that I want, and second, that it has the colors I'm looking for.

So far, the closest I came was when I almost settled for the Hasbro Combiner Wars Megatron. I wanted the Takara Legends version that was more G1 in color scheme, with a lot less red in it. In the end, I happened upon a quick auction that allowed me to find the Takara figure for only $5 more than I could find the Hasbro version, and I jumped at it.

Now, though, regret is likely impending for me. Looking at the Takara version of Blurr, I'm so disappointed in the Hasbro TR version. Yet, I can probably pick the Hasbro version up pretty easily and at a good price. That ship has sailed on the Takara version... which has led me to delay buying the figure altogether. Knowing I'm going to look at the figure, as good as it is, and always think, "But, the paint on the Takara version would have been so much better!" would be a real bucket of cold water on enjoying the figure.

This is probably blasphemy here, but I let my three year old play with my transformers, so I don't mind Hasbro versions which are easier to replace and which I regret a bit less if they break.

I regret buying the TakaraTomy Masterpiece Soundwave and separately the cassettes once the domestic one came out for much cheaper (even though it was tough to get).

Yesterday he broke a toy, a Bandai Japan Kyroryujin, and I instantly regretted not getting him a Dino Charge Megazord to play with instead.

Buying Hasbro Blurr would have been a waste of money for me. The mold may be the same but I greatly prefer the color scheme for Takara's Blurr. When I first saw pics of Hasbro's Blurr online, I was very disappointed and thought the mold itself looked bad, at least until we saw Takara's repaint which highlights the details better. I think I would have preferred Takara's Blurr to have an extra color in vehicle mode like Hasbro's but oh well.

HOWEVER, I dislike the color scheme for Takara's Brainstorm and I don't like Brainstorm with a mouth instead of a faceplate. Plus Takara's blue and black don't appeal to me as Brainstorm should be turquoise and grey. So I will be picking up the single release when I can find it for a decent price.

I just reread the thread title a few times and realized that. My mistake.
