So this have been on my mind and want to know what you guys like more 3D or 2D animation ?

For me I would like to have the return to 2D animation as I feel transformers is more cooler and I'm getting tired of the same realistic 3D cartoon we have gotten in past few years.

I'd really like a return to 2D and I especially felt it after watching Trigger's anniversary short. CG is solid but I think at this point I crave a Transformers show that's not afraid to get exaggerated and stylized like the days of the Unicron Trilogy.

    I like both.
I’ve seen both used to great effect & I would say the style used just depends on what the show wants to do.

While I like Transformers in 2D, the shows are just so beautiful in CGI. I absolutely love the look of Beast Wars/Machines and Prime.

Both are fine and can be used to great effect but lately I've been wanting to see another series that utilizes 2D animation again.

I'm not voting because it's all just a tool at the end of the day. And 2d animation has its drawbacks where alot of the animation is going to end up stiff and less detailed due lower framerates due to the complex nature of the characters and transformations and not having access to the 3 dimensional world 3d usually offers. If 2d was to ever return it will NEVER be traditional animation as it's just more cost effective to do 2d rigging like how it was done in rescue bots and academy.

Considering shrinking budgets of shows these days it needs to be taken into consideration.

3d animation ofcourse has it's struggles, sometimes designs while look boring or sets will look flat or be assets will be reused a shit ton since modeling rendering takes a crap ton of time and money compared to hand making sets. And 3d is still extremely expensive, tf prime is a perfect example of how extremely costly it was to look THAT good on to TV scale.

I think a blend between the two like how fairly odd parents a new wish or big nate was able to have a choppy framrate but allow it to be more stylized and extremely expressive work. Rid 2015 was step in the right direction with having alot of 2d elements with the 3d characters allowing for really amazing looking shots and scenes that I feel people take for granted. The show can look wonderful at times if only it had better writing.

I can't very easily put down a vote either. I think I like the concept of 2D-animated Transformers more than 3D at this point, but the best moments of the 2D shows we have don't really measure up today. They aren't bad by any means, but they lack a lot of the impact, speed, and choreography that you can find in the 3D ones. Transformers Prime might have been absurdly expensive to make, but I honestly think it's the best-animated series in the franchise to date. I'm not too familiar with Earthspark, but from what I've seen it has some fantastic moments of animation, from the character expressiveness to the fight scenes. Its artstyle still isn't my thing, but I'm counting that separately. And then you have the recent movies, though that's probably cheating.

Currently I can't think of many western studios today that would do a much better job of a new 2D Transformers. If Hasbro or Takara were to go in that direction, it would definitely be best for them to look to Japanese groups. The recent Trigger animation had some great moments in it as well, though some parts like the bayformers section don't sit too well with me. Still, I think the franchise today could benefit a lot from those sorts of groups compared to how things turned out during the UT. Doubly so if the localizers/dubbers aren't rushed as badly as they were back then.

Y'know, for the longest time, I was a firm believer in the idea that the best way to showcase the Transformers in all their glory was with 3D animation...

    ...

...I'm ready to go back to 2D now.

2D animation is better for transformers and 3D animation is better for beast wars and beast machines.

My heart lies with 2D animation but 3D animation can be great as well. Aesthetics aside, I marvel at how good the animated work is in Earthspark in both conveying emotion with facial expressions and body movement as well as how good the action scenes are.

That's honestly pretty great, yeah. Thanks for sharing, I never really looked into this show or the studio behind it. I still believe that, purely from an animation standpoint and based on the shows we've had up to today, 3D was able to reach greater heights for Transformers than 2D was. But that would definitely change if a studio like this one was behind the wheel of a new series.

2D especially if animated by a Japanese animation studio.
