Again ik this should be in the “ what is your favorite soundwave incarnation “ but again I wanted to make a thread only about prime soundwave, but anyways he’s again one my favorite transformers characters and one of my favorite characters ever

 

Honestly, Soundwave didn't leave any impression on me. In fact, I actually forgot he was in the series at all. So yeah, I guess I would have to say no because he was just there and only had one line in the entire series (whereas the rest were just recordings of the other characters).

 

I like pretty much every version of Soundwave, so I liked Prime Soundwave too. While I like his G1 design better, I thought his design in Prime was pretty neat, and he had two or three fight scenes that were my personal favorite fights in the entire series.

 

Prime soundwave was the perfect combination of being both a sinister genuine threat and hilarious ongoing joke.

In some transformers fiction they in my opinion occasionally don’t do enough to clearly differentiate the personality of soundwave from Shockwave so I really like this unusual and original take on the character.

 

I think he's one of the coolest versions of the character, with his monitor face, hyper-competent ability and drone alternate mode. And I do like his keeping Laserbeak as a paper plane/chestplate.

But I wish he'd used his robot voice more and that he could have carried Ravage with him.

 

I do like how they personalized him (I swear there's some characterization) with the parameter of never making him speak......until he spoke like a regular bot. Though I feel like something else was needed in Prime. For Robots in Disguise 2015. He had a good motivation foundation in RID2015 but the rest of the character wasn't interesting.

 

Between his creepy, wraith-like design, cool alt mode, the brilliant idea of his blank face, and his silent, implacable nature, he's easily my favorite take on Soundwave.

Dude had no personality, and when he did finally talk it was wasted on a dumb reference. He wasn’t a character he was...

Other than that he's kinda frustrating. At the beginning it seemed promising – Megatron's gone and Starscream takes control, with Soundwave undermining him by simply spitting his own words back at him. There's a lot you can do with that, but the show reduced Soundwave to literally just a walking spacebridge. Even by Prime's standard that's a lot of wasted potential.

 

Kinda in the middle with Soundwave in TFP, he was unique at first but they didn't really do anything with his character

 

I like the character, but I don't like him as an incarnation of Soundwave (if that makes sense). Aside from having Laserbeak, nothing about him really resembled the character of Soundwave. I've always felt like he would have been better suited as a new character.

 

As a Soundwave fan, I absolutely loved him in Prime.

 

Soundwave's a case where throwing the baby out with the bathwater worked - he still had the Soundwave helmet design, but everything else was an improvement. Limiting him to resembling an outdated tapedeck (but I repeat myself) does him no favors in terms of design.

I will say that @Noideaforaname raises a good point - they didn't do much with Soundwave in the later seasons.

Liked him well enough. Though the concept of a character who doesn't speak would probably work better for a new character.

 

Loved him. He just oozes personality. With what little mannerisms they gave him, you could almost always tell what he was thinking. Plus he was sassy, especially towards Starscream and the autobots. He's always underestimated by the other Decepticons and he proves his worth to Megatron time and time again.
