I just realized yesterday, that last year, I actually bought more 3rd Party toys then I bought Hasbro / TT toys. Maybe explains why I feel like I am over spending.

So I was just wondering if I am the only one in this boat?

3rd parties are helping me complete my Neo-G1 collection, although Hasbro is putting out some good stuff in that regard too. Still, I'm collecting more 3rd party than Hasbro.

Hasbro and Takara release more crazy stuff that I'm grabbing lately.

I mean, lance armed spinosaurus. And Strafe looks utterly amazing

I gotta say I don't really know. I buy 3rd party stuff with care since it's so expensive. Hasbro stuff I'll buy in a quick binge when there's a wave I like out at a store. I'm not sure my impulse buys are the same as the amount I've bought from a 3rd party company. The impulse buys are really not as memorable.

I may very well have, though. I'm into Classics and Hasbro's main lines are anything but.

    "Than" not "then"

And no... Not at this point. However, I'm going to start getting pickier this year.

With Hasbro, I'm picking and choosing (like the AOE Dinobots). With 3P, I'm also being choosier. I'm going to try sticking to a line (Function X, Maketoys combiners) unless something really cool comes out that I really wanna have (captain shark).

A bit of a one sided pole considering it's in the 3rd party thread. Takara and Hasbro sell more of one figure than most 3rd parties wish they could sell of their entire catalogue.
Having said that, I buy maybe one Hasbro release a year. Maybe 2. Usually regret one. Takara I buy most of their mp stuff. 3rd party stuff I'm very picky. Mainly I don't have a huge budget so I have a vision of what I want my toy display to look like and I stick to that. I'm very very picky.

I said 'about the same', but I anticipate my 3P buying habits will soon outpace my official Has/Tak buying habits. I'm going MP exclusively and selling off all my CHUG, A/E/C, Botcon, SDCC, Movie stuff. I figure with Gigapower & FT making MP Dinos and Cubex & X-Transbots making MP cars, I'll be buying more 3P to fill out my MP collection than what is officially being produced.

I was debating where to start this thread.

The reason I started it here is because this is the target market for 3P. I am not proving something, or trying to skew results or something of that sort.

I am just trying to see, out of people who buy 3P stuff, are they now more of a 3P collector then they are a Hasbro collector?

For me, I think that considering you can get around 6 deluxes for the average price of 1 3rd Party figure that people would actually answer more Hasbro then 3rd Party.

Doing this thread in the main section would have surely yielded tons more Hasbro then 3rd Party. It's just a different demo.

Having said all that, what this poll can say though, is if Hasbro or TT ever wanted to do a premium line with Premium prices to go head to head with 3P companies, the market would be there for small run units.

    Quantity - Hasbro.

The mainline releases hit too quickly and in large numbers. Collecting based on "classics," I'm buying most of the new Hasbro stuff AND 3rd Party.

If we're talking sheer volume, it's gotta be Hasbro. One wave, four deluxes, the total is equal to the cost of one third party item.

Combine that with the lumbering/slow release schedule for third party products and it's easy to buy more Hasbro.

TOTAL SPENDING / CASH AMOUNT - THIRD PARTY

Third party toys are expensive. One combiner limb is the cost of an entire wave (or more) of Hasbro toys. Given that I've bought a ton of third party items, I've easily outspent the Hasbro side of my collection.

No. Honestly, it's only due to money restraints over the last 18 months.

    you are correct.

for me, the quantity easily goes hasbro. cheap impulse buys like the little generations commanders (which by the way, swerve and cosmos are awesome), or maybe a movie buy like scorn add up. not so much monetary wise, but quantity wise. if we're talking quantity, easily hasbro.

total spending is easily 3P. I don't buy much 3P product, but what I do is expensive, and easily costs more then a handful of hasbro toys. 2 3P products like daca kronos and ft scoria add up to easily more then what I'd spend on hasbro the entire year.

so I think it's definitely 2 answers for most people. quantity, hasbro. total cost, 3P.

Also how dare you for not having my answer.

I find myself anticipating the third party releases and killing the time with retail toy hunting... I don't know if I would say I buy more third party figures since hastak has been pretty busy this last year.... But I definitely spen more money on third party than I do on retail

You know, I thought the same thing. There is no way I could be buying more 3P then Hasbro. So I took a look.

This is what I bought last year from Hasbro:
    - Metroplex
    - Rhinox
    - Sandstorm
    - Springer
    - Whirl
    - Blitzwing
    - Trailbreaker
    - Hoist
    - Waspinator
    - Cosmos
    - Swerve
    - Skids

I think that was it. So that is 12 figures.

Just buying Menasor and Superion and the 2 feet for Feral Rex already ties that.

So I just went back and checked my orders from the begining of last year to now. I also added in the TT releases to this list.

    This is what I have:

    TT/Hasbro: 19
    3rd Party: 18

So I guess adding in TT, I am 1 above on the TT side. However, looking at my preorders and what I want from TT/Hasbro, this number by the end of the year, will be heavily skewed.

End of the year total looks to be:

    Hasbro/TT: 22
    3rd Party: 32

    Yes.

And this is a movie year so it's odds on 3P spending will be at least 10x Hasbro-spend. So far since Cosmos I've preordered Roadbuster and Ratrap.......and that will be it for a long while.

    Fuck Movie-toys.

About the same. I just got back into TF last year and so far, I've bought:

    Third Party

    1) Planet X Genesis
    2) Planet X Caelus
    3) MMC Bovis
    4) MMC Fortis
    5) MMC Leo Dux
    6) Maketoys Giant Type-61

    Takara/Hasbro
    1) Hasbro MP Soundwave
    2) Takara MP Optimus Prime
    3) Takara MP Smokescreen
    4) Takara MP Streak
    5) Takara MP Lambor
    6) Takara FoC Grimlock

I counted them one per box, so Green Giant only counts as one and Soundwave with his tapes only count as one.

I'm at Other only because quantity wise I'm probably buying more official Has/Tak items, but I'm spending way more money on 3P
