Do we really need Neo-G1?

Or Classics. Whatever it's called. There seems to be some debate about whether it's going to come out or not due to the lack of showing at ToyFair whether they're actually going to come out or not. I'm leaning toward yes, but things can always change. My question is, do we really need it? Maybe this is me being skewed with being more of a BW fan, but I don't think so. Energon was more or less a line of homages. We still get homages like Cybertron Starscream to WW and the very Hot Rod-ish Excellion. Hell, even Repugnus. Not to mention the Universe repaints. We're definitely going to get a ton when the movie hits. So do we really need Neo-G1? I won't be heartbroken if we don't get it.

I can't speak for everyone else but I'd like it. Nothing against the other lines but I'm a classics kind of a person.

But we're more or less guaranteed to get classics for the movie line. And I completely forgot to even mention Alternators. I just can't really imagine, much as I love seekers, how a Neo-G1 Starscream can end up too much different from a movie line Starscream and compel me to buy them both.

Personally I'm all for a mix. Throwing "Neo G1" in as filler and spread out makes more sense to me that an overall line. Especially a line that is only DX and Mega pricepoint. The Mega pricepoint has been traditionally one of the worst perfomers...Armada jets being the main exception...and retailers LOVE the under $9.99 price points, so removing basics from the mix makes no sense to me. We have gotten lots of homages in the last few years, personally a line of 'bots we've had rehashed over and over wont get me all that excited, but mixed in with new characters just might. I like to think of Alternators as Neo-G1 anyway since they are all old classics with a new fresh look :)

Well these really aren't supposed to be homages but rather G1 itself I believe so I think it's a neat idea for that. I may not get any when they come out but I think it's something a lot of people have been wanting for a while now.

Yes weren't they supposed to be like Robotmasters?
A lot of people are waiting for articulated style TFs like Robotmaster Starscream including myself.

NEED Neo-G1. Badly. Cybertron is good, and combined with Alternators it seems to have gotten that icky Armada taste out of mouth (I'm not sure why I was eating Armada toys in the first place) - but - I crave something more. Something G1, something...Classic.

Completely unrelated, I secretly hope that this Classics line is actually a total rehash of the original Classics line, complete with gold packaging and all. That would be sweeeeeet.

I'm looking forward to it. Even for those of us that buy all the American lines and import all the Japanese lines, there is really not a ton of stuff going on over the course of the coming year... Takara's not announced anything, we know what the rest of some of the domestic lines look like - 5 releases for BWX, a few SWTFs (which a lot of folks are skipping), the last few Cybertron figs + repaints, and a handful of Alts on the horizon. Even with the Titanium and Attacktix stuff, it seems like this will be one of the leaner years we've seen since RiD. So yeah, I think that retro G1 line needs to be there to fill some gaps.

C'mon dude, we all need it. Don't jinx it!

Sure there were homages in Energon, but they obviously weren't the same character. Shockblast came closest, but it was still pretty far off.

And just because there's one G1 redux line, that doesn't mean every figure will be a home run. Just look at Titanium Megatron! But maybe with two lines, we'll get satisfactory versions of most of the G1 characters.

No, we don't really NEED the Classics line. But we don't really NEED any line to be honest. We get them because we enjoy them. If Hasbro wants to continually jerk off the gee wunners, then that's their business. No one forces us to buy anything.

Er... why in the world are we having backlash over a line that's not even out yet?

Personally, we don't need it, but I sure as hell want it! I mean, sure... the Armada/Energon/Cybertron universe has been great for homages, but as all the newschool and beastwars lovers put it... "This is not G1." And nore should they be considered such. They're great as they are.

The Classics line will be the first time in a long time we'll have had a chance to get half of these characters as their G1 selves. Kind of like 20th/MP Prime. Sure, we didn't need him as we are get a new Prime every year, but alot of people wanted him. And they wanted him and this line because they are going to represent something from their childhood. Just like alot of the BW fans are jumping on the 10th anniversary BW stuff (well, except perhaps for BWX Megs and Primal, but that's understandable if you don't look at them from the perspective of them being Cybertron toys).

Also, Classics Starscream is supposedly going to be based on the F-15 mold. Where as, the movie version will be an F-22 more than likely. And most of the characters that have been done as alternators, we won't be seeing versions of in the Classics line. With the exception of Grimlock, whom half the fans were pissed about his car mode anyways, will now have an updated T-Rex. So, now both are happy. And guys like me whom like both... well, I'm exstatic. I think we, as a fandom, simply need to be more happy with what bones we do get thrown, because I seriously doubt that we take up alot of thought when Hasbro designs these things. Well, not as much thought as us fans would love to believe anyways.

Don't get me wrong, chances are I'll buy a lot of Classics. If that list is right, at least Grimlock, Bumblebee, Starscream and Megatron. But I really wouldn't be heartbroken if they DON'T come out. The movie line will be a ton of classic stuff. I just feel like the movie line, the classics line, and Alternators will just kinda blend together with too much overlap. I'd be much more excited about the classics if it's more G1 stuff we're not likely to get in the movie. I'm really liking the Astrotrain choice for that reason. Stuff that hasn't and won't be rehashed again for the millionth time.

Classics line sounds like alot of fun. Hommages are nice and everything, but it will be nice to finally have 100% total rebirths and reimaginations of classic characters (that arent Optimus and Megatron...)

The more lines the better. Why are more choices a bad thing?

My wallet hates it, but I don't.

For me I have not seen figure 1 aside from some stuff that has not been seen by the general public and I can say right now this will be the first main line I have bought a lot of since R.I.D. Armada, Energon and Cybertron for the most part have been to gimicy and just have not appealed to me as a whole.

That's ok I'm a G1 Fan and can do without 90%+ of the BW toys :p

For me, a resounding yes. I want to see G1 Megs in his true glory!

And newly designed, articulated Dinobots. :D

Why is more TFs a bad thing? The only drawback is having to pay for them (my wallet has been ransacked over the past month or so ) I'd love to have Classic/Neo line to come out this year. Doesn't have to be a big line just all the characters from first season or two redone with completely new molds. It should be 100% homage TFs. Who wouldn't want to see Megatron, Soundwave, Starscream, Dinobots, Optimus, etc with articulation and improved new looks? So what if the movie comes out next year there's still a lot of time in between that and Cybertron. It's unfortunate that we haven't seen any pictures of that line at Toyfair but I am sure it'll be out soon.
