According to Botcon.com, we're expected to wear collared shirts and dress pants to the Paramount Party. No collarless shirts and no shorts. I wasn't planning on bringing any fancy clothes like that at all to Botcon... Is it REALLY necessary to do so? Will my wife and I be banned if we don't dress up for the Paramount Party?

Treat it as a semi-formal party! Unless you want to look like a slob!! After all, its not Botcon party, its Paramount's party here.

If the brochure has a dress code, common sense would say follow it. You don't want to be that guy who cant follow simple instructions and then complains to the entire internet when he doesn't get to go.

...why wouldn't you get dressed up to rub elbows with the stars and movie elite for one of the biggest film premieres in recent history?

I'm not even going, and I know you don't show up for something of that magnitude in just "really nice" jeans and a T-Shirt.

For frak's sake show some decorum and put some effort into it.

Think of it as an office party, and the boss will be there.

    What? Huh?

As far as I know, there is no film premiere and no movie elite at this party...

I thought some of the stars were going to be there? Or am I thinking of the last movie?

Either way, you're a guest at their party. Show some respect folks.

It's black tie. Rent a tux, preferably one with coattails. Top hat and cane wouldn't hurt either.

I think for quite some time the Botcon dinner was suit, tie and my favorite pair of Florsheims. After a few people came in swim trunks and a tank top smelling like a 3 day drinking binge the dinner dress code fell apart. I remember the woman who dresses up like The Baroness was a knockout in her evening gown. Was lucky enough to see her in her baroness costume though last year.

People dress however they like to. They say no shorts, but there is always at least a dozen people in shorts.

Smart casual means that jeans can be pulled off if done right. (ie don't tuck your bloody hawaiian shirt in to it and call it a day)

    From the BotCon FAQ:

Question: What should I wear to the Party at Paramount?
Answer: Dress is smart casual. This means shirts with collars and no shorts. Evenings in Californina are cool so you might want to bring a jacket.

Heh, "Californina". Anyway, I read that to mean my usual attire of a collared shirt, jeans and boots will suffice. If anyone honestly thinks that's too much to ask for then it's a pretty poor show.

People come dressed however. They've never (at least I've never heard of it) turned anyone away. In 2007 I brought pants, button-up, and a tie. I felt stupid. In 2008 I just flat-out forgot though, and ended up in shorts.

Personally, I think asking for a dress-up event is stupid for a toy convention, but whatever. I can dig something out of the closet again.

I'm wearing trouser jeans and a club-ish tanktop, as I'm planning on going out afterwards. I think the dress code really just translates to "don't look like a slob". Common sense applied, I think you're fine.
