Hi, been looking at buying different Tranformers trades. I've read some of the IDW reprints of Marvel Comics, and noted they have an updated "color correction" digital coloring or whatever term you prefer, looking at some of the old comics, I prefer how they looked before the "update" in the IDW trades. My question is, do the TITAN reprints of the same Marvel Comics print the comics how they originally looked, or are they also color corrected, and modernized? I've only seen the TITAN ones on Amazon, not in person, and the reviews there don't answer this sort of question. If you are a long term american comics fan, you would have noticed that most post 90's comics are reprinted with the then new digital and color separations, while stuff from the 80's and earlier looks different, and when it gets reprinted in the modern trades, often they end up looking quite ugly, often way too bright - but it varies - some books look better. Thank you.
The Titan reprints use the exact same color separation of the original US issues. Including colors that bleed out of the lines and all. For the UK material, the color reproduction in the IDW Classics trades has been much higher quality than the older Titan reprints. However, this comes with the trade off of the art being shrunk down to fit American comic page size.
The Titan trades of the US were "remastered" and cleaned up, but they weren't recolored or anything like that. The classic Ben-Day dots remain in ten of the sixteen books, but for the last six, the remastering process extended to erasing those dots, which made the coloring somewhat blurrier than it once was.
What Chris McFeely said. Also note, IDW got really lazy for the last 2 US reprints so the "color correction" like making purple Soundwave "blue" are no longer corrected. The images are cleaned up though. And don't get me started on the Handbook text scanning which was utter lazy shit.
I picked up 3 of the Titan trades yesterday for $5 AU each. I like printing / image way better than the later re-jigered ones. Hopefully I can pick up the rest of the trades down the line. They are cheap on ebay, but mostly based in US, so postage is more than the books. I'll look around for more local books in OZ and try OTCA also.
I loved the Titan reprints. The only thing the IDW versions have better over Titan's is that there are more issues collected like the Handbook, Movie, and GI Joe crossover. However whatever was collected, IDW's is crap. I loved that Titan had a HC option for their TPBs.
I am glad the IDW ones are their, as at least I can buy their version of the UK reprints. Are there any other options for the UK run in trade format (that are available).
Not really sure how readily available the Titan reprints are for you where you are. They're pretty pricey on Amazon but not sure if that's your only option. But for me, an American collector, the magazine size is annoying since it doesn't fit right in my collector storage boxes. And whatever B&W reprints they have are in tiny digest format, which again, don't fit anywhere properly storagewise. Content wise, they're great though. IDW could have used more page space for the UK issues even in the US size format.
