I really do hate clutter and since I started collecting MP line and 3rd party figures, my space is starting to dwindle. I am unsure if the box really adds value. Some are kinda cool, but others I really don't need and I just wonder if I am holding on to them uselessly. Does anyone know if they got more money for a TF they sold on ebay recently with the box? From my own perspective, it looks like it's hit and miss. I would say maybe 10-12 bucks more but who knows. I really don't intent to sell them at all so I honestly don't think I should keep them. It's like I open the closet door and I go "oh yea I forgot about those" or "oh hell where will this new box go!!??". LOFL! Anywho, any advice would sincerely be appreciated. Thanks!!
I resell probably 75% of what I buy and definitely get more for figures when they are complete in original packaging. If you are 100% certain you'll hold onto stuff then just pitch the boxes, but if there is even a marginal chance you will sell due to financial need or lack of interest , you should keep them. The exception for me being legends and deluxe scale stuff. But Voyager and up I keep
From what ive heard its one a toy is open it loses 5% of its orginal value, but over the years that 5% most toy increase in value at a steady rate normaly about 5% as well, over time this can add to the value of a toy imensly, but be aware then is one thing that can slame the value up or down the want factor, if the toy is someone like transformers amarda sideswipe hes worth considerably less then what he was brought at, but if you take something like takaras titans return blurr in such a short time with want factor he has sky rocketed. but ultimately you need to work out if you want to collect for money or for the toy, if your collecting for the toy then open him up and enjoy him boxs are unserryly chunky in most cases, if you can store them do it no harm in that but make sure when you need space there the first thing to go there just boxs. if your collecting for money then your in the wrong hobby lol
LOL! Definitely not collecting TFs for money. I intend to keep them as selling them is a no win situation. The only way I would sell the transformers was if I was in dire straits. Let's hope that never happens. I like them, but the boxes are totally "meh". I open the closet and there they sit. I think I just might sell them and make a little bling off them. I think as collector's we think "oh wow nice box and I will display it with the bot". That never happens for me and they just end up on the shelf. Time to sell em! Thanks!
Ive cut the front off some really nice boxs for the artwork platnium Omegasurpreme a good example then placed it at the back of my shelf
From what I can tell, they do. In fact, I care so much about the boxes on my voyagers and larger that I bought a whole new box from a fellow member here because the one I got was trashed (I paid very little for the figure to begin with, and it was the last one the seller had). Sometimes they just look really cool displayed in the box. It also keeps them from getting paint scratches and what not. The only downside is that it takes up space. I do keep them not just with the motivation to make money (because collecting stuff with the intent of it being an investment is not always a smart idea, especially with big unknowns like toys), but if I absolutely had to sell my collection, I know I could get a little extra out of the figure. It's a "just in case" measure for me personally.
depends on the condition of he box. If it is totally trashed its not going to ad any value. For that matter for it to add value its going to have to be damn near flawless.
Problem comes when have hundreds of Transformers I trash many boxes because lack of space, still able to sell many Transformers in order to make space for new figures. Not really collecting for money, there are better investments.
If you keep the box, it'll make potential buyers think you took good care of the figure, more than when you try to sell a loose figure. Even if it's just subconsciously, it'll influence buyers.
