Hi! It's Treadshot, back again with another Shapeways model. This time, it's a model for my good friend Destrongerlupus, a custom DNAVI. She's based on the Navi from Magmatron's Starship. Yeah, that "moody little bitchotron", as the TFWiki puts it.

The idea behind the design was to do everything in my power to make her not look like an insect in a science lab. That meant no intrusive stands, no spearing her on a stick. In the end, i decided to put her tail to good use. She connects to the stand by plugging her tail into the stand, sorta like a futuristic ribbon cable. The stand, obviously, would be connected to the starship's controls, so she can teleport you wherever you need to go. Assuming she's in a good mood, that is. :lol

Oh, and i'm just as surprised as everyone else that her spikes actually printed. They were blunted slightly during shipping, but they're still prominent and look great in person. Really nice to see Shapeways managed to get that right. :)

This will be available on my Shapeways shop soon, as soon as i get some things sorted out with D/L.

*Yes, i need to learn to use the exposure setting on my camera. I know. :(

Sold! This is the kind of thing I love adding to my collection. I'm still waiting for someone to do a BM diagnostic drone!

Heh, yeah, as soon as D/L pays me, then we can all have DNAVI's! I'm not sure if mass producing bitchotrons is such a good idea, but then again, what could possibly go wrong, huh? :lol

And like you said D/L, best not to work before you get paid by D/L. And i have no idea who you could possibly be referring to...who could possibly make a Diagnositc Drone...? Hmm...

    Why wouldn't it be?

But it lets me sleep at night knowing that D-Navi now has a toy, and I'm responsible for it exisiting, even if I don't have her yet :lol

Question, what material did you use to print that? It looks too dark for WSF.

Ah, I thought it might have been sandstone or something.

Actually, for something without moving parts like this, the sandstone could be a really nice option, since it lets you print in color. Back when I was in college, my school had a sandstone 3D printer. The things it made, while not sturdy as toys, were pretty durable, since the models were cured with a glue like substance. That could be a good option for this if you can make a cool texture for the model.

That does sound like a cool idea!

OTOH, I'll probably get better results with a good paintjob anyway, but the option might be very appealing to some!

I suppose it just depends on how good of a job A1 does on the texture. From what I've seen, Sandstone color printing can be very vivid and lifelike. what's especially nice is that the color will be cured into the model, so the color will never get scraped off.

Just a heads-up, I tried getting her in WSFP, and it came back as a fail. So I'd reccomend disabling that material :/

That's becuase I DISABLED WSFP. I don't know how you ordered her in Polished, but I suppose after Shapeways' model page change, everything must have been reset.

Anyways, Polished was DISABLED deliberately, as the spikes won't survive the polishing process. I don't know why that was enabled again, but it shouldn't have been.

    *LOL* Well there you go!

Yeah, so disregard my PM, don't bother making any adjustments to the model, I'll just go with one of the detail materials.

I'm not going to use her as a football or anythig anyway, I don't need "strong" or "flexible" qualities per se ;)
