Hi, everyone. I have been very impressed with everyone's work on their customs, and was inspired to do my own. I am painting and detailing the Tomy Takara DMK-01 Optimus Prime Dual Model kit. I know alot of people build it straight out of the box, without paint, but I wanted to really give this a nice finish.

I am using Tamiya synthetic lacquers, polishes, and waxes to really give it a car paint feel.

Here is the skeleton assembled and painted. Also the tires and a few red car parts. Stay tuned for more!

Cool, the metallicyness shows up way more when you put it in the sunlight! It's gonna be awesome.

Great start! You seem to have only painted the skeleton one color though. What about some other metal-tone colors (gold, silvers, titanium, gun metal, black washes, etc)? He even has chrome on certain robotic parts. Not trying to take away from you at all, just want to see more!

Here is a small update. Wanted to try the flame decals and scratching the red car paint. Came out well I think. Also added some gold highlights to the skeleton.

nice work! did you mask off the flames before spraying the red and orange over the top of them?

Actually, I sprayed a silver base, so that when I chipped the paint there would be a bare metal look underneath. Then I sprayed 3 mist coats, and two wet coats of Tamiya Italian Red, followed by a final carefully airbrushed orange gradient on top. The flames are just decals that I applied, and used Micro Sol to make it hug the surface. I will finish this piece off with a ultra gloss clear coat to really feel like car paint.
