So I'm moving into a new house in a month, and it's a lot bigger than my current residence. My future collection room in that house is about twice the size of my current collection room. Therefore, I decided I'd need more display cases. I figured I'd go with the Besta series from Ikea, but I don't live in a state that has an Ikea. Because of this, I have no idea what I should order from Ikea to get my desired results.

Basically, I need info about which cases I need to buy from Ikea. I'm trying to get an L shaped display section similar to this picture:

To achieve this look, I'm assuming I may need to get the following cabinets:

-(1)BESTA Shelf unit/height extension unit (black), Article Number: 401.340.50
-(1)BESTÅ Shelf unit (black), Article Number: 801.340.48
-(5) BESTÅ GLASSVIK Glass door, black, clear glass, Article Number: 102.780.35
-(2) BESTÅ Leg, square, chrome plated, Article Number: 801.341.90

Like I said, I don't live near an Ikea, but my brother in Atlanta does. He's supposed to be stopping back in New Orleans for a visit next month, so I'd like to know EXACTLY what I should tell him to get to avoid confusion and heart-ache when it gets here. Any help is REALLY appreciated.

Also, I'm open to any other ideas regarding Besta displays. I have 4 Detolfs, which I absolutely love, but I don't think I've seen many collections use Bestas.

I would give your bro this picture or try to find it on their website. It doesn't look hard to build

Despite the fact that you might possibly be a Saints fine considering you live in New Orleans, I'm willing to help out a fellow transformers fan. I'm actually going to IKEA later today so I'll look into it for you.

Thanks a lot man! And no, much to my dad's dismay, I'm not a Saints fan, lol. I've actually been a 49er's fan since I was a kid in the 80's, and my brother is a Bronco's fan. Pisses my dad off SO much!

The best advice I could probably give you is that you definitely need to go in and see what they got. For some reason, they pulled down all the links that I copied in my collection thread where most of the work was done for you :lol  . I found they still have most of the stuff in store but it was just a lot easier to navigate that line when I first bought my cabinets. But I'd look for the following:

    -a 3 tall x 1 wide cabinet
    -a 1 tall x 2 wide cabinet
    -5 Besta Tombo doors
-5 pairs of feet (it will have the location on the display models)
-5 inreda LED lights with 4 dairy chain cables and one wall cable
-probably just one box (10) of glass inreda shelves

Thanks for the advice, but like I said before, I don't have the luxury of going into an Ikea and looking because I live in New Orleans and the closest one is in Texas. Also, I don't think the suggestions you've made would help me get the L shape I'm going for. Plus, Tombos have been replaced by Glassviks.

Nice display, though. I'm pretty sure I sold you a few of those figures back in September or so, lol. :thumb

I was wondering why your avatar looked familiar ;)

As long as the actual stores still have them, the 3x1 and 1x2 will make the L shape you are looking for. You can actually see where the 3x1 and 1x2 are split by looking at the feet. I remember seeing the 3x1 and 1x2 when I first bought my cabinets, but as I mentioned in my first post, the website isn't showing the older stock that many stores still have -- they're only showing the newer stuff that you can actually order online. They don't actually have a single piece L-shaped unit unless you bought a 3x3 and cut some of them out. Hell, you could get 5 1x1 cubes if you wanted to get the same effect.

According from the pictures online, the Glassviks aren't the same glass doors as the one in your picture (same as the ones I'm using), if that matters. I'm not a fan of the big black border around them anyway. And some stores actually do have them -- I just bought the two 1x1 cubes a couple weeks ago and I picked up the Tombo doors at the time to match the rest of my cabinets.

i actually have that same setup for my entertainment center minus the lights in the cabinets

it looks like a besta double door with a best single door forming the base ( those cabinets come with feet but not 4" legs that are in the photo) and ther higher section is either 2 more of the single doors stacked or it maybe the book case version (not sure if its also called besta would have to go back and look.

i think thats the right name for the doors as well.

looking at the side i would lean more towars the bookecase so its essentially 3 different variations of the besta cabinet and glass doors.

the lights are tricky as some of there stuff is only availible in store, however if you not exactly what you need sometimes you can call a store and have them ship it too you.

I love Ikea 75% of the furniture in my house is from them. its all modular and gives you a lot of options in regards to what you can do.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll buy different legs for the cases then. I thought they came with those silver ones. Also, I'm not interested in those lights, so I settled on a different set of lights I found at Home Depot.

I remember reading somewhere that the Tombo doors were still being sold at some Ikeas but just weren't listed on the site. Do you happen to know if they're on sale or something? I'd call Ikea, but you have to jump through 10 minutes worth of hoops to get in touch with someone working at the store.

But yea, I think you're right as well about the cabinets. A 3x1 and 1x2 should give me the desired effect.

They were down to $45 from $50 when I bought them and they still has a pretty big stack at the time. Good luck with the search! I'm pretty sure they'll have what you're looking for but you'll just have to get a little creative (since everything is modular)
