Eh, not worth the cost to go see it. Though, I just got an offer to sign up for the Alamo's ambassador program that lets me see a movie a day for $20 a month. So if I sign up for that, I might.

Yeah, I know as this thread’s hype man I’m biased, but nobody should be shamed out of watching it or being excited for it.

Given how bad they are talking about Beyonce, it's probably a lot better.

So it's almost shot by shot like batb with some parts removed and the real look of the animals hurting the film because the animals have less emotion then the 90s movie. Ouch!

To be honest I’ve never really gotten the shot for shot complaint about Beauty and the Beast. The plot is absolutely the same, even with the new stuff, but shot for shot means that everything looks the same. The Lion King, I feel like, has had more shot for shots in its teaser and theatrical trailer than the entirety of Beauty and the Beast.

Just my opinion, but that’s exactly what I was expecting (and kind of hoping for).

The original is the gold standard for me, so I don’t think they need to tinker with the overall story too much - and as much as I REALLY don’t need or want live action Disney remakes, I’ll gladly make an exception because I know I’ll get kick out of seeing it portrayed in a realistic style in which the animals are as lifelike as possible (ironically including less expressive faces).

But both are valid points for not liking the movie, so I completely get if people are super annoyed by them and that the movie is divisive. I guess I’ll find out for myself next week. :)

    Edit: fixed a typo

He means that this makes the new Aladdin look like amateur hour, a statement to which I heartily disagree. Aladdin did enough to actually overhaul the source material to warrant watching the old and the new; other than some performances, a new scene or two, and the admittedly impressive VFX, this is absolutely of the weaker of the two films.

That’s why I’m saying umm what. Both movies got mixed reviews. At this point I heard more good about Aladdin.

Man, all this talk about faces not emoting, it's like we're in the Captain Marvel thread all over again.

    Guys... guys... psst, guys

Anyway, I'm still gonna see it. It's a live action version, so I don't expect cartoonish faces in the first place. I'm NOT looking forward to sitting through all the Childish Gambino / Beyoncbleeeh singing bullshit, but AM very much looking forward to seeing what they've done with this technologically on an FX level.

I have never seen any version of Lion King. But let’s take this moment to remember Disney does not always enjoy acclaim from the critics.

    More reviews--

All of them say they are to real and have no emotion and the film is to much like the original film.

I don’t think that Zimmer will be eligible since the score is basically just the original score with some new stuff, and it won’t count as an original. But the original won him the Best Original Score Oscar, and listening to this soundtrack I’d definitely agree he deserves it again.

Say whatever you want about the way the movie looks and how the animals are animated, but Zimmer’s score is unfuckwithable.

No it's a CGI animated movie. They didn't get real lions. It's still animated, so they can push things if they want to get certain looks without it looking fake.

Oh come on dude... you know perfectly well what I mean when I said "live action". This conversation/debate/etc. has already been done a dozen times over, so I won't get into it again.

Having said that, CGI or not, keeping things photo real to look like "live action" is exactly why they don't have faces/expression that are going to look like cartoons... because, yeah, that's precisely what would make it all look fake.

It's a cartoon combined with stock footage so Disney can call it a live action remake. That's really all there is to it. There is nothing really good, or bad about it. But, it is the truth. It is a cartoon. Just like 90 percent of all the other action films are cartoons with people here and there. It just is what it is.
