    So...we are rebooting the continuity/universe?

As much as the effects don't hold up for OG Tron, Legacy was damn good. Both have great stories too. Such a rich universe.

Disappointed that we are starting fresh.

Huh gee, if only there were a really good tv series that starred a prolific actor that people liked that was set in the world of Tron, and could also star in a Tron 3...

They had me at Tron, had me worried at "reboot," and just lost me at Jared Leto.

Just...I could accept a reboot, but why Jared Leto?

So Disney kills Uprising, cancels a sequel for Legacy and now all of a sudden they want to reboot it. I hope this is a sequel/soft reboot, at least continuing with what has been built on in the last thirty years. I'm ambivalent about Leto, considering it's just a rumor but we'll have to wait and see.

The article says it's not a direct sequel.
That tells me it's still a sequel of sorts.

It doesn't need rebooted. I'd much rather see it end as is than be rebooted.

I think Jared Leto can be a fine actor, but I just don't feel he's the right fit for this and he's just a really weird dude when he's on set. Used condoms? Rats? Etc... Just no. I'm pretty sure Disney would regret it the first week.

I'm usually pretty open to reboots or at least learning more about them before passing judgement, but eff this idea. I'm not on board at all.

I loved the second Arron movie and was really disappointed they weren't continuing with it, now I'm even more disappointed.

Yeah, I figured this'd be about the only way Disney would ever consider bringing Tron back in any form.

I'd have liked to have seen Tron 3 myself, but the franchise as is isn't as commercially valuable as Marvel or Star Wars have proven to be - and let's face it, commercial value is Disney's middle name - so I can see the studio's reasoning behind starting over completely and seeing if it they can get it to stick better this time. And actually the fact that they're willing to pony up the cash for live-action retellings of their classic fairy tales probably factors into it, too - of course they're gonna favor something that's always raked in tons of moolah in various forms - so frankly I consider it fortunate that they're even considering doing this.

Don't get me wrong, though: whether or not this thing (if it actually gets made) performs at the box office is another story entirely - it'd probably help if they get a capable talent behind the camera who respects the franchise's appeal and the need to reach beyond it, rather than another one of these same-old-bag-of-tricks guys whose contempt for the source outside of the paycheck that comes with it is apparent - but it's still a chance to reach beyond the "niche" that the current Tron franchise still inhabits.

Damn I was really hoping Disney would make Tron 3 instead of rebooting the franchise.

Welp, guess Flynn's dead. Time to re-install the OS.

Honestly, TRON: Legacy not being a success from the get-go on account of the effects was something I'd known for some time would mean a reboot, especially with the progress of technology and the actual first film being so mired in the 80's time period when computers were still not something we could hold in the palms of our hands to play Candy Crush on. Legacy managed to mitigate a lot of the technological gap (sorta, I mean we're talking about a physical-mass-to-computer-data conversion laser as the means for how the films ever happen) by literally isolating the physical computer so it couldn't have internet access and stuff, but the sequel would have not had that loophole to exploit.

That said...Leto? Really? Thankfully there's still time for them to change their minds (I.E. good ol Arnie was originally supposed to be the time-displaced soldier fighting the Terminator, but he wanted to try being the villain and the rest is history) but I don't think after SS he's got quite the pull power to headline another 80s film franchise reboot.

I enjoyed Tron Legacy, hopefully Disney doesn't butcher it!
