Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ TV Show Confirmed, Ewan McGregor Returning
Is this better or worse than a spin-off film?
Depends on who is writing and directing.
If this is for really-real, then
But I want to see the official statement from Disney/Lucasfilm.
Oh for Christ’s sake FUCK clickbait
Don't believe it.
Now this is making some other assumptions about the structure of a TV show. I'm aware of that, but not going to ramble over what is a pretty abstract thought born from a headline. I haven't even read the article at this point.
Frequent episodes would make it a little bit easier to do one episode where it's the Tatooine hermit western I usually picture the film as, while another episode can be a live-action snippet of the Clone Wars. Give us the armour.
McGregor makes those small changes closer to Guiness' portrayal across the prequels, so he can pull it off. A traditional makeup department could also pull it off, but Tarkin, young Hank Pym and the eventual future where actor's are literally brands also says hi. You can just do a live-action version of the statues and art of the half-way between two actor Kenobis at this point. But more so that McGregor could pull it off.
And as long as the people in charge know why they're jumping about his life, it works. Again, cutting the theory/ramble on that. Other stuff works too, I'm just happy for the potential of new Kenobi.
EDIT: Also what other people are saying. Deja Vu clickbait.
I'd be interested to see what McGregor can do with the role when a proper competent writer & director are in the driver's seat. Even though he was basically the ONLY moderately redeemable aspect of those dogshit live action cartoon prequels, he still came off like a guy who's never acted before thanks to Lucas' ineptitude with dialogue and direction, so it would be cool to see his actual undeniable talent come through this time.
The reports come from Deadline and they say they are true. But McGregor returning is a MAY return.
If McGregor returns the Prequelmemes community will collectively shit itself.
Sooner or later that cancelled Boba Fett movie may also be a Disney+ movie.
Me neither. It just seems to be yet another case of crying-wolf to me.
They already have with this rumor/"news".
The latest rumor suggests that it will be a limited series, only 6 - 8 episodes. If true, I think that's a good decision. I can't imagine an ongoing Obi-Wan show. But limiting it to a certain amount of episodes would be great. Definitely looking forward to seeing what they do with it, Obi-Wan was always one of my favorites. I hope it's small scale and confined to Tatooine.
I really hope so. I've been looking forward to seeing more Boba Fett since they announced these movies. Although I'm glad Josh Trank's version isn't happening. But I still really want to see Fett get his own story in movie or show format. Preferably post-ROTJ.
I think it is Legends now but there was an Obi-Wan movie just set on tatooine that had him helping out a family that owned some store out in the desert. It was a surprising good book. I'd be fine if the series was like that
If this show does get made, I think Obi Wan ends up being a glorified guest star with some young female character as the lead.
I don't know, they managed to avoid that in Solo. While I don't particularly like Qi'ra, she didn't really function as the main character or steal the movie from Han, he was definitely the lead.
I'm sure this show will have a prominent female character (maybe even a co-lead). But I don't really mind that, if it's done well. It could actually be fun to have Obi-Wan (who's somewhat legalistic and uppity) team up with a younger female, and have them butt heads about how to accomplish a mission or something. She makes Obi-Wan use a blaster because a lightsaber would be too high-profile. Something like that could be a lot of fun.
I always hoped they could get Joel Edgerton to come back as Owen Lars -- would make for a good foil for Ewan's Obi-Wan. Plus, that's some pretty decent star power.
