They are gender swapping the main character. ‘Doogie Howser’ Reboot ‘Doogie Kealoha, M.D.’ With Female Lead In Works At Disney+ From Kourtney Kang – Deadline Disney+ Developing Doogie Howser Reboot Doogie Kealoha MD
Well, they're doing a new version, changing the character's name too. So, it works for me. But, really, should have just made this Dr. McMuffins at like 10 or something.
Did anyone actually ask for this? I think most people just remember the original because of Neil Patrick Harris.
What they can do is tie it into the original Doogie show. Make it not a reboot, but a sequel. Have Neil Patrick Harris play Doogie again for a cameo. Its been long enough that he could play the head of the hospital. Maybe he just shows up to give the new character advice since she's the same age he was when he started.
Well, if you're going to have Neil Patrick Harris in it, and it is going to be a sequel, then go all out on it. And, don't do it by half. Make his character her boss, or mentor figure or something. Have him actually be in it. Have the character be meaningful, not just a character who is does nothing more than be the equivalent of a fortune cookie.
I said cameo since I don't know how NPH would be into doing a TV series. If he wants to be in it a lot, good. If not, a cameo is good enough.
Well, I think after all this virus stuff clears away, people are going to have lot of extra time for adding things. I mean, this is Disney after all. They CAN afford to pay Niel Patrick Harris to be a roll in this series. It's not like has to be in every episode. Just every now and then. That way he doesn't just randomly appear, give her advice, and disappear. It can be done in such away to film all his scenes at the same time or something, too. Either way, I'd think having it just be a cameo, would be a terrible way to do it. This is based on a show that ended in 1993. So, anyone who this show is new to, isn't going to have a clue who he is supposed to be, other than it is just Neil Patrick Harris giving the girl advice. It's just not going to have any meaning to anyone other than people who have seen the show. It's basically waving nostalgic keys in front of the audiences faces, going 'remember this!' to an audience who might just not even have been born when this series ended. So, having him be an actual character would be better than a cameo. Not having him in it at all, would also be better than it being a cameo, in my opinion. As a cameo lacks any meaning to anyone who hasn't seen this show.
Just curious was NPH always gay, even during Doogie Howser? He sure fooled me in Harold and Kumar goes to White Castle.
You two are askin an awful lot of Disney. They only know soulless remakes. Not thoughtful or creative endeavors. Wow. I just realized that Disney's become Hollywood.
Disney has always been Hollywood. We're not asking a lot from them. We're just suggesting ways of making it not awful. But, yea, we know exactly where this is going.
Of all the names to keep, they chose Doogie? Really? Why not just call it Houser M.D.? And isn't rebooting a popular show or movie with a female lead of color kind of a cliche now?
