here's hoping 10 minutes later we get confirmation that 1,2 & 3 don't count and neither does anything else released after 1996.

Does anybody else find it interesting that Disney's also putting out a Guardians of the Galaxy Movie in the next few years? Just saying...

Good thing turbo nerds are too busy pole stroking Joss Whedon's "brilliance" and praising him as the new Geek Demigod to really take notice of this.

PS: has anyone blamed Bay for this yet?

Can't say I'm surprised they would want to make another trilogy. If they make an ep 7 they almost have to make an 8 and 9.

    I have a novel idea.

Don't make any more, and feed off the amount of money the franchise already makes.

Hey, I'm just glad that someone else will be calling the shots and that Lucas will only be a consultant.

Agreed. We might actually, finally, get the un-special edition versions of the Original Trilogy.

I know "STAR WARS" is the big fish that everyone keeps talking about, but through this, Disney just acquired Industrial Light & Magic, which if we're being honest, is Lucas' true legacy and a great win for Disney.

Disney should buy DC and put Batman in Avengers 4. Darth Vader can be the villain. Death Star v.1.

Hey, Disney managed to make The Avengers after buying out Marvel and I don't see anyone complaining about that.

I can see this venture going either way.

Again, Avengers was already happening, Disney didn't have much say over it at the time they bought Marvel, except cash.

I have mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand, taking it out of Lucas' control could mean good things. Disney has, if not everything else under the sun (which they probably could find a way to buy somehow if it existed), infinite money and resources, along with a good stock of directors so unless it's truly godawful the worst we could get is just "decent" movies.

At the same time, if what happened with Star Tours is any indication (take a perfectly good attraction and try to make it more "modern" with 3D glasses and more C3P0 whining at all times while ALSO turning the clock back so it's set during the hated prequel trilogy instead of immediately after the sixth movie), this could get really ugly really fast.

That is a good point. ILM is probably the best in the SFX business, so combining that with the already excellent standard set by Avengers and it might be something amazing.

I'm just thankful this acquisition happened AFTER John Carter. It would have been a tragedy to see ILM's Sci-fi touch wasted on that stupid bore-fest.

Considering Lucas actually doesn't appear to be that good a director, and he himself directed the hated prequel trilogy, a scapegoat isn't actually needed at this point.

Also, at least Bay didn't start the first movie as "episode 4", I still don't understand what the motivation was for Lucas when he did that.

Actually, it was only confirmed. Not written and in pre-production or anything like that.

I know. But the lead up movies were either done or starting pre-production, but Star Wars was being left alone. There is a difference with continuing on with something still going and bringing back something that was at a nice resting place.
