Dang, and I still have quite a ways to go in my "stack" before I even get to DiRT 2. I wonder if I'll ever catch up with game at this rate...

    Can't wait for this one...

as apparently, i heard this one will focus more on rally than Dirt 2 did... :)

Anyway, i hope that snow in the trailer, means there will be snow type tracks in the game and if these pics are to believed, it will have a "Audi Quattro" and a "Mini" in the game. :)

Can't wait, just hope I have the money to get it when it comes.

I really enjoyed Dirt 1, but as a yank Dirt 2 was much more appealing. I hope they do a combination of the two as Dirt 2 left a lot of the classes that were in Dirt 1 and the rally events weren't really rally. (My real dream is for a Rallisport Challenge 3)

Edit: I hope they add terminal damage to Ranked online play. Ranked mode just became a joke of who can spin the others and slam through the corners.

Did anyone buy it yet? It's getting good reviews. I'll probably get it pretty soon since I loved part 2 and I heard this has more rally than 2 had.

I did. I really like it. Feels like a good mix of Dirt 1 and Dirt 2.

It has lost a lot of personality from Dirt 2 though. You're part of a "team" assigned to seasons (looks like 4 total seasons) but it's all just a tiered race system, and the "team" is just a few random people doing voice over explaining what races are. Instead of a map you start a season pyramid. The Season consists of three sponsored race series (usually 4 Races, A DC Shoes Challenge, and a Final race/challenge per series) and then a season final (Season 1 finals are Gymkhana training and a freestyle Gymkhana battle, Season 2 is the Summer X Games)

Pretty sure they stuck to all the same race types as Dirt 2 (EDIT: Gate Crashers is gone, the smashable gates are part of Gymkhana. No more Team/Doubles or Knockout races either) but include Gymkhana. You don't have a whole lot of choice as to what you want to do, just go race this series and you'll unlock a few races to choose from. In Season 2 you have two different series to choose from to start but you still need to play a little of both to unlock the third series.

You no longer purchase cars or buy the packages for them to be used in more advanced races. Instead you have a rep leveling system that allows access to new cars/liveries. You earn rep by winning, completing sponsor challenges (based on car/liverie, usually reach X KMH/MPH, finish under X time, Finish atleast 1 second faster than 2nd place, Drift for x feet), and having rewinds left over (every difficutly gives you 5 rewinds now). Each level unlocks new cars/sponsors and the higher level sponsors give you more rep reward for sponsor challenges.

They did add some assits into the game. Damage (none, cosmetic, full) ABS, and skid control as well as a full racing line or just the braking line. I have all assist turned off except for braking line, which honestly isn't really needed. Theres a greyed out option for auto gas and/or brake as well as driving, guessing you have to be on a lower level than what I am to enable those. Gymkhana also has assist to help you "stick" to certain objects as well.

just started this gem. I love it, especially the fully adjustable difficulty and the gymkhana events. I'm not sure how the physics engine is, but I think it's more realistic than dirt 2, which I couldn't get past the demo.

I keep forgetting about Youtube stuffs. I haven't done anything to crazy so I've only tested it and uploaded a second pretty bland video. It works pretty well, I just wish you didn't have to pick from generic terms when you upload it and had a little more control over the camera and being able to change the speed at different points in the clip.

A little of the way through Season 3, not sure what I did but I opened a Rally World Tour (EDIT: It's not just a Rally World Tour, you unlock all disciplines. Rally X, Land Rush, Traolblazer etc. You seem to unlock them by playing a certain amount of the events they pertain to, I've unlocked 5/6 after completing Season 3). This adds another set of 4 races and a DC Challenge outside of the season. I forgot to count but there's a good number of them (EDIT: 6 total) to unlock, I was a little scared that World Tour would be short. Edit: Played the first race, it gives you 5,000 rep and consists of 5 rally stages. The sponsor challenges were pretty easy - Finish without taking damage, finish without spinning out or flipping, beat the stage in less than 3:11, a few repeated but with my highest level sponsor it was an additional 900 rep per challenge (4,500 total over 5 stages).

Also, the Colin McRae Vision Charity Pack is up on the XBLM for 160 Allards/$2.

Colin McRae Vision Charity Pack - Xbox.com

I went ahead and purchased it, haven't used the car but I'm pretty sure it's the same car you unlock late in Dirt 2. EDIT: Same car, handles really well and can take a lot of slower corners at a high speed without losing grip.

Got the game yesterday. It was on sale at K-Mart for $39.99. Graphics are great but the tracks seem to be alot shorter than the ones in Dirt 2. Also I can't play online since the website to redeem my VIP pass has been down for a few days. Lame. I guess back to the Dirt Tour I go...

Are you on 360/PC or PS3?

For the 360 (and PC version?) its just a marketplace token to download a 108kb key.

The Power and Glory dlc came out yesterday, $6 gets you five cars with several liveries.

    BMW M3 Rally – Rally 80s
    Lancia Delta S4 – Rally Group B
Ford Focus ST RallyX – Rallycross
    Scion tC – Gymkhana
Chevrolet Camaro SSX Concept – Trailblazer Modern

Yes, a Camaro doing Rally. It's pretty fast but really front heavy, you have to be carefull when braking before a turn. Since the natural force of braking pushes the front end down and shifts the weight to the front it makes it hard to get the car turning sometimes. Adjusting the brake bias to the rear helps.

Thats the biggest thing I love about Codemasters racing games, the cpu will crash and/or make mistakes.

It's semi scripted (it's random but programmed to happen), but I love coming around a turn to see the cpu spinning. I haven't heard it in D3 but if the cpu spun/wrecked/stalled in D2 your navigator would call it out during rally events.

I rented this for a couple of days and still think the original offers the best proper rally stages.

All the X Games and Gymkhana BS should be given it's own game because it's overshadowed the rallying in parts 2 & 3.

I wish they would get the X-Games right. They do it as Rally Cross when it's actually Head 2 Head. They did get the LA Coliseum finally though.

Personally I like the inclusion of X Games and Gymkhana, although they could have save/used Gymkhana in Grid 2. The DC Drift Challenges felt out of place though, something pulled from Grid but not done as well. The whole reasoning to include those was to try and appeal more to of us yanks in Americaland, feels like they scaled it back from D2 though.

I prefered Dirt 2, just for the overall personality of it. I miss the other drivers talking during the races and the overall presentation. I prefered the tracks from Dirt 1 though, I still have fond memories of some of the races from D1 but D2 (except Batter Sea) and 3 tracks/stages are all pretty interchangeable.
