So everyone is giving their reviews and opinions on the latest Transformers movie so I thought I'd do the same but then I thought more about the movie and...I want to know if someone can fill me in on somethings I may have missed when I saw the movie or if the IMAX version showed extra scenes explaining this but...what the hell was the connection to the Dinosaurs in the beginning and the Dinobots and why are they referred to as Legendary Warriors and...okay, I digress.

At first I thought it would all make sense, the creators cyberform the Earth, transforming some of the dinosaurs into Transformers, we then see cyberformed dinosaurs in the excavation site in the beginning and I thought those were going to be the Dinobots. But apparently not, Lockdown just happened to have the four (sorry Slash) bots in his ship, and referred to them as Knights or Legendary Warriors and I could barely hear what he said at the time.

And then they turn into dinosaurs not because that's what they originally were millions of years ago and it's the form they prefer most because of that, no they're just dinosaurs because..reasons? Am I missing something here or is it really this out of sync?

 

Everything involving the Dinobots and Knights and whatever shit Optimus did with the sword pretty much made no sense. I think the movie was just hoping the audience would be brain-dead enough by that point to not care.

I feel like the entire "Legendary Knights" thing could have been a super cool plot on its own in its own movie, but then it got shoved into the other two plots, which... didn't work.

 

They're Dinosaurs because they're dinosaurs. While seeing the lackluster plots of the TF Films being frames for action scenes, you should know that these films run more on Rule of Awesome then anything else.

 

I was afraid of that..and it would've worked out so well too if they just put more effort into it, just connect the two together and we have an actual back story to go with these characters.

Also, as soon as they said Legendary Knights I couldn't help but picture Rodimus and the crew of the Lost Light finding the Knights of Cybertron and it turns out they were the Dinobots the entire time.

 

Maybe set up for part 2???

I'll give it my best shot at explaining:

Lockdown explains to Optimus that the ship once belonged to the Knights (of Cybertron?) who used it to venture out and explore the universe. Said Knights are apparently the Dinobots, who Lockdown captured... aboard their own ship... but then Optimus is apparently... also a Knight. Maybe the Primes were Knights too...?

Yeah, that's all I've got. They're dinosaurs because fuck you, that's why.

 

I'm glad I'm not the only one. The thing about the Knights went straight over my head. Apparently Lockdown's ship is a stolen/repurposed ship of the Knights, the Dinobots being the crew? What connection does that have to the dinosaurs on Earth 65 million years ago?

 

Then there's going to be a lot going on in TF5, so many things have been set up for it already.

No not really considering those are all animals that are still around today, you can argue that they just scanned them and went on their merry ways. But these are Transformers that can turn into animals from 65 million years in the past and have no record of ever coming to our planet other than as Lockdown's prisoners, kinda needs some form of explanation.

 

I was JUST discussing this with my better half.

SO...the movie STARTS with a scene "cyberforming" the Earth...even going so far as to showing METAL DINOSAUR REMNANTS.

Then, later in the film, we are introduced to the DINOBOTS. They transform into METAL DINOSAURS. (kinda)

So...clearly there would be an awesome story hook tying this together, right? NOPE. The Dinobots are just prisoners on Lockdown's ship. Optimus refers to them as powerful warriors, legendary Knights. Apparently no connection at all, TO THE FIRST SCENE OF THE MOVIE THAT SHOWS DINOSAURS BEING CYBERFORMED ON EARTH.

How in the @#$@ did the movie get made with NO connection? How....HOW can we somehow tie Dinobots into the film and explain it? HOW can it make sense? Let's film a $50,000 scene on prehistoric Earth....then....Eh...screw it. They can just be on Lockdown's ship. So. Weak.

Yes, the ship is apparently the Knightship instead of "Nightship". Yes Prime called them Knights. Ok. Awesome. Great. What in the F does that have to do with them being the Dinobots? What a missed opportunity. It just boggles the mind that these kinds of decisions are made.

 

Because they needed something to use for the big "Transformers are the reason for this" moment.

TF: Hoover Damn?
ROTF: Pyramids?
DOTM: Moon Landing and Chernobyl?
AOE: Dinosaurs all dead and Chicago looks like crap?

 

Apparently a lot of you all missed the scene where the Creators are shown collecting cyberformed dinosaurs. Pretty sure that was meant to imply they created the Dinobots, same as they did Optimus.

 

I actually did miss that. Sure would've been nice if the movie explained that instead of throwing in the whole "Legendary Knight" nonsense.

 

As drift says' what did you think they were going to transform into giant cars'
