Found this awesome thing at Toys R Us yesterday for 50% off, $20 total. It is an enormous and very well made 50 piece, no glue model. It is painted like crapola but one hour with some acrylics and it looks awesome. I haven't re-done the base yet but will soon. I am going to trim the bottom and attach it to a stained base after I paint it. The Skeleton stands in the base perfectly balanced, no pegs or anything keeping it attached. Go get this, so worth the money its hard to not get 2-4 of them, bend the spines and poses and make a diorama. Painted out of the box. My Paint Job
Box is toast but you can't miss it. Giant green/blue box with Edu Science written in the corner. The front and back have a HUGE PIC of the dinosaur and a window to see its skull. Hard to miss. It was with the Animal Planet and Science toys by the books. One store had a giant display with it built.
I saw this at my local TRU and passed on it since it didn't look very good in the package. The shoulder area in particular didn't look like it was articulated properly: the arm attachment site was too high up on the ribs and the shoulder blade is way too horizontal. The paint job was also uninspiring. Compare it to this: http://www.skeletaldrawing.com/psgallery/pages/tyrannosaurus5027.html On the other hand, it's the best rex skeleton I've seen in its price range.
They're on $20 clearance all over the place here. I could pick one up for the UK people and ship them out. Its a real big box but even then it has to be less than $45 US for the whole thing.
HOLY crap! DMK! Haven't seen you in ages! How've you been? And on-topic..I wish there was a TRU around here still. Looks like I'm heading to El Paso soon.
I found one of these while I was out Christmas shopping last month and immediately knew I had to have it. Sometimes I look at it and think "why in the hell do I have a 3' T-Rex skeleton in my living room?" And other times I look at it and think it's the coolest. I know the mold is not perfect, but I don't think very many people I know will be able to pick out the inaccuracies.
