Hey guys so I'm looking to get masterpiece styled dinobots. However I currently have mp08 gridlock and want the figures to scale with him because they fit really nicely into a classics/generations collection. Here is the sizing Swoop needs to be smaller. I was thinking bullsfire air strike Sludge needs to be the biggest of the bunch Slag and snarl I would like to be the same size or a hair smaller than mp08 If anyone has comparison pictures or a good look at a dinobots collection with mp08 in it please let me know!
That's a tall order. I don't think you're gonna find a set that meets all you're looking for. You'll probably have to mix and match from different sets. Are you ok with different aesthetics? Is scale the top priority?
P08 is short compared to the other MP dinos from both companies. You would need Scoria and it's platform boots to get MP Grimlock up there near the size of ANY masterpiece Dino. Even then, Grimlock won't be taller than Slag. Sever is taller than highheel MP Grimlock too. All of the Gigapower Dinos are huge compared to Fanstoys. So closest would be: Gigapower Sludge - definitely most massive Bullsfire Swoop - smaller than MP Grim FT - Sever - A good sized Snarl (a hair bigger than Grim) FT - Scoria - an alright Slag, but needed for the Grimlock boots. I suppose you could go with Toyworld or Fansproject for Snarl and Slag. They would be smaller than MP Grimlock, but a little too small, as they're big voyagers and MP Dinos are leader or bigger. However, if you get the Oversized KO of MP Grimlock, it considerably widens the options: Gigapower Sludge (close to oversized grimlock, would be second biggest) Fanstoys Soar/Swoop (smaller than all, but not Bullsfire small) Either Giga or FT Snarl - all will be big, but smaller than Grim Giga, FT, or Perfect Fusion Slag - all will be big, but smaller than Grim
The problem with MP-08 Grimlock is that basically nothing is sized correctly with him (and that's because, in the post MP-10 world where scale started to matter, Grimlock is too small). Any of the Gigapower and Fans Toys dinos are going to be bigger than Grimlock. That might work for your Sludge, but that's it. Bullsfire Air Strike is maybe half a head shorter than Grimlock, and that might work. But you're kind of SOL on Slag and Snarl... like I said, your MP options (FT, Gigapower, and Perfect Fusion) are taller than Grimlock. And your non-MP options, of which I think GCreation is probably the biggest, is still smaller than Grimlock (and probably Air Strike).
Ok an important questions also is, how are you going to display them? If you're a robot mode guy, you're going to have a problem with MP8 because you'll need the Scoria add on boots to give him height and even then, it's not perfect height. On the other hand, if you're a dinobot mode kind of person, then it's a whole different game. Some people will say the MP Grimlock and Fans Toys Dinos (in dino mode) don't match but to me, they look spot on together (BSF thinks so too for what that's worth to you). I personally keep mine in dino mode because when I think of the Dinobots, that's how I see them. I have FT's Grinder also but I can easily put MP8 into the mix and he looks just fine with them in dino mode.
