    ID4 set the standard for 'giant spaceship shooting a laser through a structure' that everyone since uses. Kind of like the Matrix and Neo's finger beckon that everyone uses.

    I'm just a bit surprised that the Nemesis had a giant laser weapon. I mean, I can see how they didn't have an opportunity to use it before, but, it did kind of come out of nowhere.

    I noticed it. Between the angles they used for the shot, the scene of the explosion itself, the overall tone surrounding the scene, and even the helicopter circling the base, I'm betting it was an intentional nod.
