Optimus Prime's trailer was in there when he didn't need it.

 

I always saw his alt mode as just being what cars and trucks were like at the time. Kup is an example, he has a similar-ish look to the front of Rodimus's space van.

 

See? Rodimus, Kup, and Wreck-Gar. My grandpa actually owns a later model of Honda Goldwing, and it looks a little like Wreck-Gar.

 

The toy gun platform was just a way to make use of the back half without having to clutter up the actual robot mode. From what i remember of his transformation in the cartoon, Roddy's butt just grew big when he turned into the RV, the trailer never appeared like Optimus's.

 

I think it actually did appear like that of optimus one time

 

I like to think it's more RV than trailer, and it has some rocking 70's love shack inside. Flame deco furniture, spinning multi color disco ball, groovy sound system, small hot tub.

 

I honestly started thinking of Spike and family taking Rodimus out on camping vacations.

 

That's probably the right answer, and shows why I probably shouldn't write any Transformers fan fics.

I dont know, but everytime I think on Rodimus RC mode, I automatically think also on Walt and Jesse's met lab from Breaking Bad...
