Recently got this figure, and it made me wonder, did they just give up when designing the vehicle mode? Almost all the previous movie Leaders had great vehicle modes, with almost no robot kibble showing. Even Startscream, with plane TFs being notorious for having kibble showing. Obviously the exceptions are Jetfire and Megatron.

With Ironhide, it just bugs me to no end how much of his legs show below the truck. Even the DOTM Voyager managed to hide the legs.

    Just a thought.

Honestly, I feel like Hasbro just said "F*ck it." when it came to the majority of the DOTM figures.

They didn't so much give up as they decided stuffing Ironhide full of gimmicks in each limb took priority over hiding the robot mode parts in vehicle mode as much as possible.

Leader IH is prolly my least Fav leader. I even like Megatron better.

Honestly, it's not that much more obtrusive than Leader Sentinel Prime's shield poking out both sides of his vehicle mode.

And frankly, Ironhide's weapons are so unbelievably badass in both modes that I'm willing to forgive alittle underside kibble in the vehicle mode.

it's the same with PRID Voy Starscream! his kibble(legs) are showing along the sides of his jet mode!(behind the wings) not tucked or hidden away, it looks a mess. the FE one looks better

Majority fans wanted a heavily weaponized Ironhide... its a good tradeoffs for some extra kibble underneath.

The legs might've been less obvious in vehicle mode if they weren't so blue...

The color is my only nitpick. the figure itself is rock solid, and looks great (imo) in both modes. leader IH is probably one of my favorite movie figures (but I don't have too many of them, lol).

I've been wanting to get the fwi upgrade kit for him too. Those additional guns look badass, I just haven't had the scratch to get them yet with so much other cool stuff coming out.

No Megatron, No Shockwave, a rather simplistic Bumblebee, after ROTF i think they substantially gave up on the entire price point.

I liked Leader Ironhide a lot and I'm actually surprised that he's so disliked.
DOTM Bumblebee, however, was just a poor man's Battle Opps Bee.

I just wish that he could hold 5mm weapons in his hands better. I got Laserbeak because I thought the combined gun would be perfect for Ironhide, and it turns out he can barely hold guns (or any weapons that would extend past the wrist) if they are too wide. In Laserbeak's gun's case, it has to be angled to the side a bit.

Overall, he's...ok. I do think they could have done a better job on him (and several other DOTM figures).

I disagree entirely. Leader Ironhide is one of the best movie toys around.

So you're saying he's as good (if not better) than Leader Starscream, Brawl, Sentinel Prime, ROTF Prime (and all his repaints/remolds), and Battle Ops Bumblebee? Lol, ok dude...

agreed. it's probably one of the prettiest alt modes the movie line has to offer. HA jazz edges it out just a bit imo.

the blue peeks through a little, but like other have said it's a small sacrifice. I do think if they were black/dark silver though they would blend with the alt mode quite a bit better then sticking out like smurf undercarriage.

yeah. better then sent definitely. on par with hftd ss & battle ops bb imo. conflicting opinions omg!

Only reason on why Hasbro gave up on Leader Ironhide was that Bay killed him off

He's a decent figure but I wouldn't say he's the best Leader mold (that distinction goes to Buster/Striker Prime and HFTD/MP-M01 Starscream). Overall I dig him but the way his shoulder joints just kind of float, his blue "jeans" legs (gray or silver with gold accents would have been better), and somewhat weak/fiddly hip ratchet joints (makes his stances and poseability difficult; he's either standing with feet too close together making him look unnatural or spread too far apart like he's doing splits) lowers his wow factor a bit. The third party FWI-02 cannons/swords and chrome smokestacks do make him more awesome though.

I agree with this man. Botgh modes are pretty awesome IMO so the extra kibble I can live with
