I saw Saturday's episode of TF Animated and I have to say that I really enjoyed the back story behind the creation of Blackarachnia.

I enjoyed it enough that now I want to get the figure of her when she comes out. To say the least I was pleasantly surprised.

Who agrees? Disagrees? Could care less? What Is your opinion?

Loved it. Great story and glad there's more to her than "evil girl bot".

 

Absolutely loved it. It's a good twist on the character and has catapulted her to new favorite character status. I really can't wait to see her again.

 

Not sure yet. To think she was Elita 1 is just so...I don't know...assanine? (for lack of a better word).

I like that it's something completely new and different, I'm just not so sure about it yet. I think maybe it could play out to be an interesting conflict for her - especially since they show she still has some "feelings" left in her at the end (I'm definately seeing an Anakin/Vader parallel). Also, I'm so sure I dig the hybrid of robot and natural creature.

We'll see what happens with it. Too soon for me to judge.

To a degree I do but I'll hide my real opinions on the episode for another day because I'm not in much of a mood to have a horde of angry fans jumping down my throat.

Funny thing is that I found some connections with Blackarachnia and Rogue off the X-Men, both have similar abilities (except Blackarachnia uses her stingers to drain energy), both have gothic appearances (I'm mostly basing this off Rogue's goth stereotype in X-Men Evolution) and both were on both sides (Rogue was in the Brotherhood first before she joined the X-Men, Blackarachnia was with the Autobots before she joined the Decepticons)

 

It was Ok but im not a fan of this predisposition towards making female Decepticons be weak or former Autobots I dont really want emo Deceptichick I mean I loved Black Arachnia in BW then they went and ruined here character by making her go native with the maximals.

Why cant female Decepticons just be evil?

 

Well I can say with confidence that I truthfully don’t care what others think of my opinion on this subject, my opinion to the OP is this;

I love it...I was actually hoping to see some role reversal at this years botcon, meaning seeing a fembot prime or reversing good and evil, and it happened.

Elita 1’s story is awesome to me. G1 to now. I like the twist and I had only seen the preview of Blackarachnia toys till I saw this past weekends episode. I thought the end (on the rooftop) really changed the dynamic of a machine and made certain that anything, in this world we nerds enjoy so much, possible.

I won’t give spoilers I just love it. End of story.

 

I thought it was a great episode and I really hope it leads to more conflict between Optimus, Sentinel and Black Arachnia.

She didn't appear any less powerful than any of the other Decepticons the Autobots have encountered so far. It still took a whole team of them to take her on.

Also, I hate emo as much as the next interweb surfer, but Black Arachnia was not emo! "Conflicted" does not mean "emo".

 

I don't see anything EMO about her.

She is doing what she can to 'CURE' herself. And she didn't even flat-out *HATE* Optimus. If she hated him she could have killed him after knocking him out. It sounds like she is going to "hang around" earth in an attempt to find a cure pursuing her own agenda neither supporting autobots or decepticons.

Is she sad that the ALLSPARK didn't cure her? Sure
Does she have feelings for her former commerads? Sure

I expect her to be a 'Catwoman' type character. Walks the line of good and evil to pursue her own goals. I am sure we will see episodes where she defies Decepticons to save Optimus as well as Optimus trying to find a cure to regain her trust.

Anywho, she is a good character to me.

 

People misuse the term "emo" way too much. She's sad, that doesn't make her emo.

 

EMO does not equal simply cryin', not all the time! Especially if there's a good reason for it. (as many of ya have already pointed out   )

Also, what I was really likin' was the fact that they didn't make her a copy of BW/BM Blackarachnia but a whole another kind of character. That would have been much worse than a "cliched" backstory of "feelin'-betrayed-back-then-now-hatin'-you", which I thought was well enough done too.

I only consider a "cliche" a cliche if its put in because of lack of creativity rather than it being a situation that actually could have happened the way it did due to the circumstances.

Though I'm just surprised no one pointed out the surprisingly graphic way she transformed into her current state...

 

nope, I didn't. I didn't see the elita/ba connection coming, but once it showed up, I was like "you've gotta be kidding." if they're going to be doing these homage-type things and use names/characters that we are somewhat familiar with, then they shouldn't do these things out of left field. either that or use different character designs.

 

Well technically, EMO stands for "emotional" which does sorta describe her. Though that doesn't make her like an emo kid.


So she did get "emo" at the end of the episode. Though breifly.

 

This could be opening up the chances of getting our first real Elita 1 figure.

 

1. There are very few characters that are direct ports of previous generations. Why should Elita-1 be an exact copy of her GEEWUN design?

2. Animated Elita-1's was VERY SIMILAR to Ariel, the PRE-character.

3. G1 showed young Optimus with his buddy Dion and Ariel as a close-knit Trio that was destroyed by tragedy. This aspect of the character was kept intact.

4. Elita was Optimus's Female counterpoint. It appears that BA is going to be Optimus's female counterpart.

So there are huge similarities that make a lot of sense. It isn't random bullshit out of left field, it is VERY VERY VERY true to lots of original G1 themes and the original character. It actually makes Animated Elita-1 more complicated than G1 Elita-1 and overall a stronger character.

 

I get the feeling BA is gonna be a Catwoman type character too. Her primary concern at this time is curing herself and that'll drive her to do things not necessarily in the interests of either Autobots or Decepticons. She is bitter at Optimus but i think not enough to truly wish him dead. Perhaps on a deeper level she does understand that she was merely an unfortunate victim in the tragic circumstances of her metamorphosis, and that no one that day had intended for the terrible events that occurred. All that matters to her now is regaining some of her normalacy in curing herself of her organic side.

I agree that i too see parallels between the themes of Animated BA/Elita and G1 Elita-1/Ariel. The name 'Elita-1' was not just randomly inserted simply as a homage nod to G1 Elita. Many things in this ep reflected ideas from the G1 eps "The Search for Alpha Trion" and "War Dawn". Animated Optimus like G1 Optimus believed Elita to be dead for a long time; Ani. BA/Elita has been personally linked to Optimus in their pasts like their G1 counterparts, and this personal connection does seem like it'll be addressed again in future; Ani. Op did save BA when she couldn't remove the key from herself just as G1 Op came to Elita's rescue on Cybertron; and the innocent trio of young bots that were friends from "War Dawn" were reflected in Ani. Optimus, Elita and Sentinel in their pasts.

But the difference in Ani. Elita from G1 Elita becomes clear in her tragic fate and transformation into BA, which brings about a complete change in her character and puts her at odds with Optimus. Ani. BA is the combination of BW BA and G1 Elita, inspired by both these base characters' themes: BA's self-serving motivations combined with Elita's history and connection to Optimus, with a twist of tragedy thrown in. The result is a distinctly new character based off characteristics of old ones. And it seems to have worked quite well in this ep!

Loved the back story.

I totally saw it coming from the first moment Elita spoke. It was the same voice BA had in the premiere. In fact, I even blurted out "Elita-1 becomes BA?!"

From that point on, I watched the ep. wondering how they were going to explain the change. Giant radioactive mutant vampire-ish spiders. Of course.
