I had a (quick ) look around and couldn't find anything recent on this.... Back in late 2006, there were loads of stories about Anne Bryant, composer of the original TF theme, suing Sunbow and the BMI for royalties. (one such link here - p2pnet news Blog Archive Transformers Theme royalties fight) Does anyone know what happened, or if it's still in the balance? Just curious.
The 'similar threads' section begs to differ. Two similar in this forum, but feel free to point me in the right direction.
I found out the name of the case and the latest information (from March of this year). I can't make sense of it, though - I tried reading the legalese and failed. Maybe someone else can make sense of it? http://www.courts.state.ny.us/courts/ad2/calendar/webcal/decisions/2009/D22506.pdf And here's the relevant Google Search: site:New York State Unified Court System BRYANT v. Sunbow
Hmm - nice find, thanks. Yeah - the legalese is tough to read! It looks - to my non-legal brain - like she lost. But I'd welcome a confirmation from any legaleagles out there.
Basically, from what I gather - The trial was delayed for "more evidence" on the plaintiff's behalf (Bryant), but she failed to provide more evidence, so the original ruling in 2007 (in favor of BMI/Sunbow) stands. She has to pay BMI their court costs, but because Sunbow screwed up something and didn't follow the right line, they have to pay Bryant's court costs. But she lost her case. And that link is to her appeal, which was ruled on in March of this year as denying her appeal.
