According to Todd Mcfarlane,Leonardio Dicaprio is an excellent choice to star in the next Spawn flick. I didn't know Leo did straight to DVD stuff? I like the guy's art,but Jesus. Topless Robot - McFarlane Redefines "Delusions of Grandeur"
Now they're doing Spawn 2? After all these years? Should've struck while the iron was hot after the first one. Does anybody even give two shits about Spawn nowadays?
*checks the schedule* "Shit, are you kidding me? The Spawn train left HOW long ago?" *stomps out of station*
Todd.....I loves ya.....but now a days if you ask someone about Spawn, the number one answer you'll get is "Who?"
If Dicaprio is in it, you know the movie won't really be about Spawn. Maybe the only thing related to the comic would be that he was a black guy who made a deal with the devil and came back as a white guy. So Dicaprio can show Downey Jr a thing or tow on how a white guy plays a black guy. Maybe a little superpower here and there, but mostly Dicaprio playing a black guy playing a white guy. I remember buying Spawn #1. I wonder how much it's worth now. Is Spawn still going?
That pic of McFarlane is priceless. You may wanna bailout the water from your sinking toy company boat first, Todd. That and didn't he kill Spawn in the comics not too long ago...?
Um, is Michael Jai White too old or something to be Spwan anymore? And why is this man intent on making a cop movie with a Spawn title?
Well Todd seems to think they're making it,but he's the only one who thinks so. Did you read the article? Leo would be the cop. I wish I could be half as as Todd is in that pic. The Vanilla Ice pose, the dayglo Spawn logo background, the flame shirt, the million dollar balls, the man is a god!
Ha, no I didn't. I had two minutes before work started and I wanted to post something. I guess I'll read it now.
Can't say I'm too surprised, since there are some pretty low-tier comic characters getting optioned for movies these days. But this idea of a virtually Spawn-less Spawn movie sounds like it would be epic, Catwoman-level bad. To answer these in reverse order: Yes and basically nothing...just like virtually every other comic from the '90s.
So sick of Spawn fans. All they do is piss-moan on the Mcfarlane boards about how their toyline is dead.
I was going to say this, but was afraid of ruffling feathers, but now I know someone has my back. The comic shop I hang out at regularly gets calls from people wanting to sell their comics and it goes something like this: Seller: Yeah I got some old comics to sell. Owner: How old? Seller: Probably 70's Owner: Okay, bring them in. Next Day Seller brings in a bunch of 90's comics (which he thought were older) and none are bagged and boarded (not that it would help) Owner: Yeah, sorry, these are all crap. Have a good day. It sucks because I have a bunch of comics from the 90's, and they are in fact all crap. Its not as bad as my collection of Marvel Cards....sigh.... they are fun to look at though.
Well, shocked that Spawn is/was still being published, I read up the summary of the series on Wikipedia. Ugh. Just ugh. I was never really that into Spawn, I loved the idea of a Superhero with a symbiotic suit, but never really bought into the series, but where it went, wow. (The last I read was somewhere under the First Metamorphasis, the last I heard about was under Heaven and Hell with Urizen.) I figured the series ended sometime not long after that. I feel sorry for those who really stuck with it, even the synopsis was difficult to read with it's proposteriousness. It's like really, really bad fanfiction!
I don't see why Todd just doesn't use the new Spawn that's in the comics now. It would be a better jumping on point for a new movie.
I'm in the same situation, with a few things from the 90s left over after a garage sale years ago (including some Spawn issues), and I've been alternating between donating them at various places and just leaving them at work with a "FREE" note on them (depending on content). People can talk about cars depreciating, but nothing loses it's value faster than a comic book; from ~$3 to basically $0 as soon as you leave the shop.
the current Spawn title is like a third incarnation... the first one which ran majority of the title was the spandex hero the second one was mostly him in some apartment or something the third (now) is think a mix of both. And this one is by MacFarlane again
