Diamond Comics Shipping List for 28 September - Transformers News - TFW2005 TPB release of Heart of Darkness.
"Artist sensation Ulises Farinas." Given the overall look of Heart of Darkness, I'd call that title debatable at best, at least with his TF work. To each their own I guess, but his art is what prevented me from buying beyond the first issue.
Experince the underwhelming conclusion and Galvatron vrs the ferocious crab people with art that will stand out in your mind ....
I was so disapointed the the 3rd TPB. Looks like the 4th will be just as bad. Maybe 5th will be better. Kinda sucks cause I only buy the TPB and not the individual issues. So I'm a few months behind on story heh.
In fairness, his art seems to be a lot better with organics and monsters, his art for the big monster in the final issue is overall much nicer looking than his art for some of the robots.
THIS WHO? The artwork from this so-called sensation is garbage. I recall reading someplace online this was his first time drawing robots of any sort. Every face looked the same. I couldn't tell the difference between Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge. THIS again The best name they could come up with is D-Void for a villain? Really? Honestly Devoid (the actual word spelled out) would have been better than a half-assed attempt at creative name creating. D-Void. Wow. How about M-Tee? Or maybe, G-Wilikers, D-Prive, D-Stroy or even Z-Bra! I think once the petition started about bringing Furman back to do #81, IDW likely threw in the towel on their own creative process and phoned in the rest of their story. I think IDW's on staff realized their inconsistent artwork and lackluster storylines are turning off their once-loyal readership.
Agreed. To be entirely fair to the guy, he's actually got talent, and is not a bad artist at all. He can draw organic forms and even machinery quite well... he just can't draw Transformers! For this reason, he probably shouldn't have been put on this project in the first place, but I do think he gets a bad rap from people. Spay-C? Royal-T? Maybe D-Void is actually from the Gobot universe!! Yeah, that was a bit weak. I mean, I guess I should give them props for not using Unicron AGAIN... but it feels too much like they're just swapping out one apocalyptic cosmic death god for another, which is not exactly fresh. zmog
I dunno, the panels with the big monster kinda looked like one big blob. Maybe there was too much happening around the beast to really have a clear view of it. I'm just not a fan of the guy's work. Can someone also answer this: Who the hell is Thinkbox? Is IDW just making stuff up now?
That I can understand. I just come from an art background, so I like to make the distinction between when people don't like someone's drawing, and when that someone "can't draw". Sometimes it's a style thing, and I see a strong link between Farinas and guys like Frank Quitely and Geoff Darrow. However, I do agree that his Transformer-art is downright awkward and unfinished looking. It's almost like they were drawn by a whole other person, and the ambivalence of "style" doesn't quite cover it. Yeah, I think they are... which is fine. I was genuinely curious who this "Headmaster Thinkbox" is, but then the story never came back to him. They devoted a whole sequence to Galvatron seeking him out for a specific purpose, and then the end of the series resolved nothing. Maybe he'll come back into play as part of this CHAOS thing, but I feel a bit put off now. zmog
