I am guessing "New Union Robo" = Shin Getter Robo.

seems like this guy's power up design hasn't really improved that much since the 80s

The new union robo thing must be the MP11 Magnus.

The translation seems to be done word by word; not by the meaning in a sentence.. anyway the interview is too short... I 'd expect detail like how long it take to design a shit like that ?

Kouri, thanks for filling in the gaps a bit. It was hard for me to fully understand what exactly was being said.
As for the negative comments, I think it has progressed since the original designs he made. There is unfortunantly so much you can do when you make it a "suit" and not a replacement of limbs. Other than the elbow joint being in a odd place, he has amazing articulation in the arms considering it's something wrapped around anouther robot. Just look at how many parts are in the shoulder joint alone. I was pretty impressed from an engineering standpoint. overall excecution? still pretty cool. I don't need full amazing posability to be happy with a toy. Since they weren't going for movie acuracy, I wished they had made it more of a Powermaster Prime sort of thing, but thats okay, since i'm going to customize mine into that anyway.
And even though it was short, i'm digging all these interviews we keep on getting lately. It seems like the last year or two they've really made an effort to communicate more with the fans.
    Randy!

Wow... 3 of my least favorite designs EVER... the others I never saw... Explains my disgust at the look of "Mothra" Optimus Prime.

Wonder if he was a designer of G1 Galvatron too....

First. Yes, thank you Kouri for filling in the gaps - seems like you did a great job with what you had.

Second, ugh, more Butterfly wings hate. The figure is MUCH more that just a certain placement of the trailer parts.

And I agree with Randy, Ult OP is actually very articulate in the upprer body/arms considering what it is. I get that he's not for everyone, heck I sold mine, but he does have some real and postive attributes.

I doubt it, Mr. Starscream is the one designing that iirc. By union robo, and the context used in using that to describe Victory Saber, I think he means robots that create a union via combining.

So if it isn't Magnus, who is it?

Interesting interview. Thanks for translating Masabon. I took Japanese in high school and it took a while to get used to, I imagine the other way around, going from Japanese to English may be more challenging.

This interview, whle brief shed some good light on the design inspiration of Ultimate Prime. I understand what they were going for now, surprised to learn that design was headed by TakaraTomy on this one. Really does come off more like a mechsuit than an upgraded robot.

I was wondering if it was sheer coincidence that ChromeDome and Hot Rod were both Cars, and Autobot Leaders that shared a similar but radically different transformation scheme. Looking at Chromedome's vents on his shoulders, guess that carried over from Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime. Huh...
