Very interesting, the use of Union in the name implies it'll be some kind of combiner, I wonder if they're resurrecting the unreleased Jetpower Prime.

 

That'd be very nice if they did. Interesting that he seems to have designed Ultimate Prime purely as a toy rather than trying to incorporate too much from the movie.

A1. It started with OPTIMUS PRIME finally pulling a trailer in DARK OF THE MOON(DOTM). I was hoping to have a trailer pulled by the figure, and, after talks with Hasbro, we settled on something bigger than a Voyager class. I wasn't concerned with making something right out of the movie, but rather my own interpretation of what an "ultimate" OPTIMUS should be.

Q2. I hear that there is often trouble with creating movie figures from early designs. Was this figure based on early material like concept art?

A2. There was no consideration from the Hollywood team, and from the beginning I wanted to make my own design. This was something all done in Japan. The idea was sort of an update to JETPOWER OPTIMUS PRIME from REVENGE OF THE FALLEN(ROTF) where JETFIRE sacrificed his life to provide parts. It was only after I saw the new movie that I found out about the new jetpack.

Q3. What is the highlight of ULTIMATE OPTIMUS PRIME?

A3. If nothing else, please enjoy the size.

Q4. After VICTORY SABER, you've been in charge of various power-up union Robo. Is there some new challenge you tried to accomplish this time?

A4. I matched the joints of the "Omega Combat Armor" to work along with those of the OPTIMUS inside. This way the Armor worked more like a suit than a set of replacement limbs.

I'm suddenly more interested in Ultimate Optimus Prime. Because it is a Takara developed piece from an established 80's designer.

Very Cool. I like clever unions/combinations. Like the power core combiners and the energon Autobots. Personally I want more Jet aircraft docking combinations. Even for the robot mode in a super robot style.
