He's G1, built tough as nails, and Fully Transformable! Keep in mind, I really pushed for G1 accuracy (nothing more, nothing less). He's also be gloss coated for a factory look and finish VIDEO REVIEW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiGRAwax0jI White Background:
It's a nice start, but just like a majority of the custom combiners out there, requires a lot of mode specific parts, such as the combiner arms, head, chest piece, hips, Mixmaster's cab portion and Hook's crane.
I like the simplistic paint job. Not too overly complicated, but crisp enough to look factory. Excellent job.
You mean just like G1 Devastator?!? NO F*cking WAY! Great job man. Little too green for me personally. But always love seeing Devastators.
If you did your homework, you'd know that G1 Devastator could also use his combiner parts as vehicle mode weapons.
dude what transformers toy did you use for devastator. I recognize long haul is from demolisher and scrapper is landmine from transformers cybertron
From what I can tell, the molds used were: Hook: RID Hightower Bonecrusher: RID Wedge Scavenger: RID Grimlock Long Haul: Energon Demolishor Mixmaster: Energon Barricade Scrapper: Cybertron Landmide Forearms: Cybertron Primus Hip and thighs: Armada Unicron Chestpice: G1 Devastator
DUDE love it.... but why not use the Shapeways 6contrusticon heads? I have it ordered and underway, I'm thinking about casting those so if you need a set? (that is if I can get casting to work )
yowza thats bright and blinding man color wise real good job on the colorshemes though makes me think of how my silver chrome dodge looks when i get all buffed and waxed up just right on a hot summer day. man when the sunlight hits my truck at just the right angle outdoor lighting wise it can be a real case of killer glare man.
You did a bang up job building him. And the paint looks nice and clean. But I think you should add some more color to the constructicons, and Devastator. ( something to break up the monotony of green). Not more detail paint, maybe the robotics-forearms,biceps, thighs, and connection joints.
I understand what you're saying but mine only requires that you simply pop parts on. I built Devastator with 'easy connection' in mind. I'll be putting up a video of him soon and I'll show how simple his mods really are. Thanks! Exactly. The head and and chest plate were cast by other customizers. Yeah but I thought almost every Devy like this used him as well Thanks dude, this project has been held up long enough though man, maybe next time Yeah, I know what you mean. I had my car repainted in an ultra white and had 3 gloss coats put on it and when the sun hit that, it was blinding. I also used a new light tent for this Devy and gave him charcoal backing. I might go back to my usual white and post some of those pics up too. Thanks man, good feedback too. I'll leave this one as is though because I really wanted G1 but with a strong build and very clean paint apps.
Who cares if it uses mode specific parts? If it's good enough for hasbro it's good enough for Me.. Sure G1 Devastator could use the combiner parts as really CRAPPY weapons (btw, if YOU did your homework you'd realize not every part to g1 devastator became a weapon). The flying front end loader since the devastator chest shield was there.. totally believable.. The bots have great alt modes, they have great bot modes, and can form devastator with the inclusion of some added parts. Nice work OP! Don't listen to someone who wants to put down your creation like this.
agreed 100%, Demonss. When you see what goes into doing a project like this, it's not "cheating" to use add-on parts. sure, with unlimited funds and time, one could design something that requires none of those (like RID's Rail Racer and Build King, or BW's Magnaboss and Tripredacus). But who cares. There is not one single official version of Devastator that does not have add-on parts. The cartoon - those guys morphed into whatever was drawn, and there were inconsistencies all around. Comics - again, you can draw whatever you like. G1 Devastator, the Crazy Devy parts, every friggin custom Devy that has come down the line, the Energon Devastator mold, even these new TFC and Maketoys guys - there are add on parts. There is kibble to be had. To claim that this Devastator is "a nice start" is an insult. I would be proud to have it in my home. Somehow we forgive all the mass-shifting and errors in the world, and theories as to why Hasbro did this or that, but one guy takes time out of his life, and money spent, to create something that nice, and all you can harp on is that there's extra bits on it? Look at it. It looks like Devastator. he made it to be easy to put together. It's cleanly painted, and looks the part. Why do you expect so much more out of him than you do Hasbro or Sunbow? And i'm sorry - most of those pieces were poor excuses for a weapon and you know it. EDIT: On a side note - G60Force - just curious - you mentioned the Shapeways 6pack of heads, and that you're casting them. I'm assuming you would charge someone for this service? Is there a reason they wouldn't just spend the money on the original 6 pack? Sorry, i'm not trying to attack you, but obviously someone spent a lot of time designing those - it seems a bit weird to be like "hey check out these easily purchased items, I'm making copies that you can buy from me instead"... Just sayin...
lastly, SonOfNemesis - where does the Mixmaster cab go in bot mode? I've seen some from that formula partsform, and other times they found a way to tuck it with some stalk or something. Just curious.
no offense to previous incarnations of this beast, but THIS IS MY FAVORITE EVER! Finally someone gave him green upper thighs like on the damn cartoon, that always drives me nuts. I know most folks don't make them green to break up the color better but i prefer it this way. Also, who cares if a few add-on parts are needed? sure it would be nice to have it all incorporated but I remember having a boatload of little pieces to put all my G1 bots together. Fantastic job.
