i'm thinking the same thing, it sort of clashes, i dunno. I'm going to try a darker purple as the base coat.

yourreflection: thanks, this is the first time i've tried this technique (i forgot the name, used on his thighs). So hopefully I get use to it the more I do it.

 

purple is a tough color to get right. not many paint manufacturers make a good (non-feminine) looking purple.

Testors makes some decent metallic purples in enamel but no medium - deep purples. You might wanna custom make some.

I suggest some Magenta + Cyan or blue. Don't use red + blue, the pigments will become mud.

 

I think the problem you're seeing with the dry brushing is you've got too much paint on the brush. there should be little to none on it. I have a tutorial if you're using enamels :

yea, i noticed testors didnt have much of a choice when it came to purple so i figured if that purple didnt work, i would just mix some. thanks for the tip on the red+blue. your paint apps blow my mind everytime i see your work, freakin piece of art they are.

 

that looks great but the purple is a little light compared to the other colors

 

The chestplaste, the lower torso, and the lower arms and hands look sweet. Also I like how you cover the wood block with some kibble it gave it a more natural look, so great job. Keep it up.

I like it. The purple is a bit too lavender for my tastes, but I certainly think it could still work. The same could be said for the green, It's much darker than the G1 colors... but it looks great

 

I now notice the purple is a little bit lighter, maybe darken it a bit. But thats your call.

 

You could take that green and lighten it up using some careful and lots of blending and dry brushing. Take a look at some of my WIPs, base colors are usually much darker than the final color.

 

I like the purple, i think it goes well with the green you've chosen.

Guess I'm the odd one out cuz I like the lighter purple cuz it helps set him apart from all the others out there. Oh and the green is cool too. Just looks a bit more unique. Doesn't have to be bright green to say Dev to me

i posted some new pics. i added some gold highlights to the green, did some more dry brushing, and i think i'm going to go with this color purple, the hand i did was just a quicky to give an idea. it's a dark purple with some maroon added to it, i might wind up going dark purple.

I'm really like that shade of green, but if you want to go with a darker shade of purple without having to mix anything, pick up Citadel Liche Purple. It's a really nice color.

ah. It citadel Liche Purple from Games Workshop and its acrylic paint(or at least I think it is, ive never really understood the difference, can anyone help me out?)
