A number of months ago, a thread was posted asking what kinds of shelving people used for displaying their collections. The Detolf from IKEA was mentioned and praised, and I thought people said then that it had integrated lighting. The Detolf on IKEA's site now says that lighting is sold separately, but I can't find anything that looks right on their site. Anybody have any ideas for lighting?
I think the lighting is integrated but the price shown doesn't include it. You need to pay for the lighting separately.
The lighting is sold in their lighting department. I am selling three of them in the Los Angeles area because I am moving to Texas and will be buying three more when I get to Texas. They are great for displaying transformers.
yeah. the bitches at ikea don't bother to explain to you in "THE BEGINNING" of the directions that you need to screw the light to the inside of the top of the case...I got my case built..then discovered...haha...you have to use a drill to screw the light to the top of the case by drilling holes...and once you have it assembled completely that is not really a feasible project...freaking swedes...
The Detolf cabinet is ok...a little plain looking for my taste, but I suppose it can be dressed up to look a little fancier. Not quite elegant in its simplicity, but just simple. That having been said, it displays TFs just fine.
It's a great shelving unit... provided you don't stuff every TF you own in there like I've been forced to do. It's still pretty nice, don't get me wrong, but it looks a lot better when you've got less figures in there instead of being crammed up. If you've got tons of TFs to display, either buy a few of these or get a bookshelf instead.
I debated on getting them last year, but they always seemed kind of flimsy to me. I ended up going with ikea's Expedit shelves instead. No glass, but very sturdy.
Oh, wow. That whole Expedit line looks great! I love the cube set-up with insert door/shelf/mini-cube options. The TV one looks cool, too. I think I may have just found the entertainment center for our bedroom. May get one with the desk attachment for the office, too. Thanks, SS!
Lol I do the same thing. I try to shove in as much as I can. That poor metal frame is probably going to call it quits on me sometime.
I have a white one and its great! I want to buy at least one more. The glass shelf's are a bit loose because of the metal frame they sit on, however it is still very sturdy overall. I actually didn't screw in my lighting, just used a few strips of 3M double sided tape and its solid til this day. Too bad I am here in Central CA, Otherwise I'd take that one lot from LA.
i never understood all the love the detolfs get. they're too thin and deep imo. if u stuff the shelves too much u can't even see all the figs in the back. in fact i was at ikea yesterday and saw a bunch of different shelves that were much better. i'll admit the price on the detolfs is hard to pass up though.
